My love and I came back last night from a long weekend getaway in Puerto Rico- This is my second time on this beautiful island and it did not disappoint. Since I already wrote a guide this post is all about tips on traveling there during COVID.
1- You need a negative PCR test atleast 72 hours before your arrival (rapid is no bueno)
This is crucial, and yes they do check if you get tested. Once you land in PR you need to fill out an online form and upload your test results. We went to the RV on Barrow and Christopher Columbus and got results the next day.
2- They take COVID safety seriously!
You must wear a mask at all times or else you might get fined $100. There are signs everywhere you go. We did se at least one person get stopped by a cop for not wearing their mask.
3- To visit El Yunque National Forest you need to reserve tickets in advance.
They also release a limited amount of tickets 24 hours before go to https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/300017
4- PR is apparently very busy and booked up.
We stayed in an AirBnb in San Juan. So definetly book your room in advance. Not a winging it type trip.
5- Make reservations to restaurants in advance if you can for everything
Because of the influx of tourism, literally everything booked out. Kayaking, hot spots, and even shuttles to Culebra/Vieques. We literally missed the boat on that one. Also if you know where you want to dine, would recommend reserving spots as well.
