I am pregnant. And a few weeks ago while organizing my baby registry I realized that I am so prepared to welcome baby but not prepared at all for my own recovery post-partum.
10 years ago when I gave birth to Mia, I had no idea what I was in for. At no point in my pregnancy did I learn about what happens to your body post delivery, that not only are you responsible for this tiny human being but you’re also responsible for you’re own healing.
“It takes a village”- but where is this village when your whole family lives abroad, and your partner goes back to work a week later. I fell into a deep depression, I was in this black hole for almost two full years. The lack of help, support and healing got me there.
With this pregnancy, I wanted to do it differently. I wanted to be more prepared with support this time to get over the fourth trimester.
I came across Boram Care. The first ever post-natal retreat centre located in Midtown-Manhattan. A place moms can go too with their partners after giving birth for help and support on all fronts. The perfect way to transition to this new chapter.
I am going to be staying there for a full week after I give birth, so I asked Sarah Mallin, the Director of Operations if she would meet with me to give me a tour and tell me a little more about Boram. I sincerely hope that this is just the beginning of more facilities like this opening up in this country, that hopefully workplaces will pay for. HINT HINT.
