With the Covid-19 pandemic taking a heavy toll on international travel, many Americans are itching to revitalize their summer plans! Though many nations are beginning to reopen their doors to international travel, the majority of countries are barring US citizens from entering until further notice. This is largely due to the fact that the United States has been hit particularly hard by the virus and does not yet have things completely under control.
That said, several countries are reopening to US travelers, albeit with some restrictions put in place to protect against the spread of the Coronavirus. More often than not, countries are requiring Americans to arrive with proof of a negative Covid test taken within 48-72 hours of arrival or face a 14-day quarantine upon entry. Now may not be the most socially responsible time to travel internationally, and if you do choose to leave the country and reenter, you may be subject to a 14-day quarantine pending the state you live in.
All that said, here are the countries that ARE allowing visitors from the US and the Covid-19 restrictions they currently have in place, should you choose to travel!
*Note: This list is the most recent update for July 22, 2020, but as rules and restrictions are constantly changing, it’s important to check with local authorities before booking your travel!

Croatia
Though the rest of the EU is not currently accepting American visitors, Croatia has decided to allow tourists from all countries, including the US. US citizens arriving in Croatia must show a negative Covid test taken at least 48 hours before departure. If you don’t provide a negative test, you will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
Egypt
Americans, along with other international tourists, are now able to visit Egypt, though face masks, social distancing, and temperature checks will be necessary. To avoid a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival, US travelers will be required to show a negative Covid test taken at least 48-hours before departure.
The Maldives
Not only are the Maldives currently allowing American tourists, but travelers will not be required to show a negative Covid test on arrival if they are not showing symptoms. If you show symptoms and are asked to take a PCR test, you will be quarantined until you receive your test results. All visitors to the Maldives must wear face masks, practice social distancing, and will be subject to temperature checks.
Mexico
All land borders between the US and Mexico are currently closed to non-essential travel. However, if you are arriving by flight, several of Mexico’s popular tourist regions are open to American travelers. Areas including Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo, Mexico City, Yucatan, Campeche, Jalisco, and Oaxaca are open to American tourism with some restrictions.
Turkey
Turkey has opened its doors to American travelers, though tourists must complete an informational form upon arrival and will be checked for any Coronavirus symptoms. If you are showing symptoms, you will be transported to the hospital for further inspection. If anyone on your flight tests positive for Covid-19, you may be subject to a 14-day quarantine upon your arrival in Turkey.

The Coronavirus is still spreading throughout the world, so if you do choose to travel, do so with caution and respect for those around you! Instead of traveling internationally, consider taking a day trip or weekend trip to a neighboring city. Camping, hiking, and outdoor activities are also great alternatives to traveling internationally at this time. If you do plan to travel, wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing wherever you go!
