Columbia Trail
Distance from Jersey City: 1 Hour
This gorgeous bike trail runs for 15 miles along the Raritan River and through several historic communities which are perfect to stop for snack breaks along your way! Riding through the forest will provide cover from the hot summer sun, and you’re sure to encounter your share of wildlife, too.
Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail
A whopping 72 miles long and less than an hour outside of Jersey City, this bike trail is considered to be one of the best in New Jersey. Ride along the lovely Delaware and Raritan Canal, pass by historic bridges, and enjoy the great outdoors!
Henry Hudson Trail
Distance from Jersey City: 45 Minutes
If you’re looking for a scenic ride, this 22.5 miles long bike trail located in Monmouth County is for you! Take a leisurely bike ride through both natural and urban landscapes and enjoy a perfect summer afternoon.
Heritage Trail (NY)
Distance from Jersey City: 1.5 Hours
Beautiful during both summer and fall, you won’t be disappointed by the Heritage Trail! Running through charming small towns along a historic rail line, this bike trail provides all things wildlife, museums, and natural landscapes.
North County Trailway
Distance from Jersey City: ~1 Hour 10 Minutes
Located in Westchester, NY, this picturesque trail runs just over 20 miles long. Join families out for a stroll, fellow bikers, and dog walkers for the perfect escape from the city!

So much great biking around Princeton, including Lawrence Hopewell Trail and lots of road options. I also love the East Coast Greenway route (w/1 modification) from Newark to New Brunswick … or just til Metuchen, or Metro Park. Not what you expect from North Jersey riding.

Also, North County Trail will soon be NYC to practically Kingston NY on the Empire State Trail (Brewster to Hopewell Junction trail under construction), if you want to think a bigger ride.
