I interviewed Mackienzie King a few months ago about her life and clothing brand “Commonless Apparel”, and we clicked right away. Mackenzie wears many hats both literally and figuratively… not only does she own a clothing brand, she also owns a production company called NVRLand productions. Upon seeing some a few of the videos she produced I asked her to shoot the video for the ChicpeaJC one year anniversary party. Mackenzie did a killer job and since then has produced the JCITFF Red Carpet video and the All About Downtown Street Fair Recap.
NVRLand productions doesn’t only do video, they do pretty much everything in the creative world…. graphic design, photography, social media and more. They did our step and repeat at the street fair, printed promotional materials and banners. NVRLand productions is a one stop shop for all your marketing needs!
What’s your name? Mackienzie with a k. (Mackie)
What do you do? I am a Graphic Designer, Printer, Cinematographer, Photographer, and Social Media Marketing Guru.
So we’re talking today about NVRLand? Yeah
What is NVRLand? NVRLand is a creative agency; what we do is anything creative. If you come to us and say that you need to rebrand your business, or help starting a new business; we can help you with your web design, stock photography, graphic design, printing- from business cards all the way down to outdoor banners, indoor banners, stickers, you name it we do it. We also do some fun things on the side. We have an Etsy shop that sells customized wine labels, party décor, step and repeat banners, customized table cloths for birthdays, invitations, literally you name it, we do it.
Everything? Yeah.
How long has NVRLand been around? NVRLand has been around for about 2 ½ years now, but we went into full swing about a year ago. Everything picked up about six months ago when I left my 9-5 job to pursue this fulltime.
Awesome. Can you tell me a little bit about your price points? The one thing that we guarantee is really low-cost at the highest quality. Online print companies will advertise something at $9.99 for 500 business cards, we charge about $25 for 500 business cards; but what they don’t tell you is they start you off with the thinnest paper possible. We are giving you the heaviest paper for one flat price- full color on both sides; we work with you on design as well. We also offer customer service; If you need assistance we have someone available to help you along the way . You can call us or email us.
Oh Awesome. So you have done two of my videos? Yes.
Can you tell us a little bit more about that? We’ve been working on videos for a while with our sister company SaigaPictures (www.saigapictures.com). Through all of that we’ve gotten a number of jobs, I’ve actually done editing for Iggy Azalea. We’ve done a video for Conor Maynard who is a pop star in the U.K. but he’s also well-known in the U.S.; he’s Neyo’s artist. We’re working on a BTS with Bastille. I’ve done a lot of work with local businesses. We also do lifestyle videos, like my company Commonless Apparel. Anything we can get our hands on we do. I love doing videos; editing is my thing.
Creative craziness. Pretty much.
Where did you learn all this stuff? Believe it or not, a lot of it was self-taught. I went to St. Peters University for four years, graduated with a degree in Communications; but honestly, most of the stuff that I’ve learned is self-taught. When you have an interest, or when you’re passionate about something your able to pick it up fairly easy.
What are your future plans? Honestly, I want to kick ass at this being my own boss thing. I spoke about it before but, you will not believe how hard it is for someone my age with a degree, and the resume to back it up to find a well-paying job that provides the things I need. Being my own boss was just something where I can go to work and feel comfortable with the person I am. I want to be able to provide for other people like myself, I want to be able to say that my business is a home for many people who are like me, and can afford to pay them what they deserve.
Awesome, and you were raised in Jersey City? Yes, born and raised in Jersey City (Heights).
Anything else you’ll like people to know about NVRLand? Why is it called NVRLand? NVRLand because I am a huge fan of Peter Pan and growing up a very close family member of mine always quoted J. M. Barrie; it’s just something that lives in my heart. Anything you can dream you can achieve. Most people don’t know the true honest story about Peter Pan but if you watch the movie Finding Neverland, you’ll see they touch a little bit on it. NVRLand is just about lost people, lost souls and I honestly felt like one for a long time. It’s just inspirational to me. I love the creativity that we’re able to bring, we bring a sense of professionalism about how we handle things and take every job seriously. At the same time the creativity we bring is soulful, colorful, and very vibrant; it’s just a different approach at marketing and branding your business.
