The Animal Clinic and Hospital of Jersey City opened in 1939. It didn’t take its current name until 1953, though. During the earlier years, the police officers in Jersey City were still riding horses around the city. The original owners of the animal hospital were the ones taking care of all these horses.
This was the start to an amazing facility that is keeping so many of our local pets healthy. The current owner is now Dr. Lawrence Buchholz, along with manager Roselle Camaligan, who has been an associate at the Animal Clinic way before Dr. Buchholz even owned the building. He now is not only running the Animal Clinic and Hospital in the West Side of Jersey City, but is also affiliated with Newport Veterinary Center.
I had the chance to speak with the manager Ms. Ro Camaligan about her experience there. She started working at the Animal Clinic right after high school in October of 1989.
The facility is huge! They own the whole building so there is lots of space for different areas of use. There are four exam rooms, a large waiting room, a reception area where their mascot Ms. Turbo the turtle lives, a cat area, and a separate dog area.
They offer so many services for cats, dogs, and exotic pets. The only pets they cannot assist are birds, but they have recommendations of places that do! They offer pharmacy services, dental, all routine surgeries, and grooming.
There are three veterinarians on staff: Dr. Sara Neumann, Dr. Kimberly Danaher and Dr. Ashley Beard. I personally met Dr. Beard when I took my toy poodle, Nicky, there for her check up and she was super helpful and answered all my questions. All three veterinarians work at both the West Side location and Newport location.
There is a big renovation in works that will be happening to the office sometime soon! This hospital is only getting better! They have Monday through Saturday hours, but make sure to call to make an appointment. They are located at 603 West Side Ave. right across the way from Lincoln Park. I wouldn’t bring my pet anywhere else!
