It’s National Puppy Day! Find out where to get yourself a new furry friend, where to get them some treats, different services for dog owners, and ways to give your pups something fun to do for the day!
Adopt a Dog
If you’re looking for a dog, why not adopt one? You can visit Liberty Humane Society and give a pup a permanent home. I know people tend to be hesitant about adopting dogs, especially since they don’t know the extent of the dogs’ behavioral histories, but consider adopting a dog before visiting a puppy mill. Dogs in shelters, especially pitbulls, are overlooked by potential dog owners because they don’t think it’s safe and ultimately don’t trust the dogs, but it’s important to know that a dog’s behavior is based on the way its been treated and trained. I’ve seen plenty of pitbulls locked away, never adopted, because of the stigma behind being a pitbull, but it’s not the dog’s fault. Through the proper training and care, a pitbull (and any dog, for that matter) can be your best friend.
Provide Quality Food for Your Pup
Each dog needs to meet a certain number of nutritional requirements. Many dogs, based on breed, age, and health, need the right foods. Visit your vet to find out the best possible foods for your dog, especially to make sure you work around any allergies or digestive sensitivities they may have. Once you know what types of foods your dog should be eating, you can visit one of many local pet stores to get foods and treats for your pup! Stores like Canine Canteen and Hound About Town have raw foods, wet and dry foods, health supplements, and more for your furry pal.

Keep Your Dog Active While You Work
Outside of apps and sites like Wag! and Care.com, you can look into local services for dog walking and doggie day care! K9dergarten is a dog training center where you can leave your dog if you’re away, and they also have grooming and walking services. Anything’s Pawsible serves Jersey City and Bayonne, and they offer dog walks and vacation care with GPS tracking available. Waterfront Walks offers similar services, but only in the Downtown Jersey City area. Tails on Trails is a local dog walking service that also ensures each pup gets the attention, exercise, socialization, and care they need and deserve.
Treat Your Dog to a Pampering Day
It’s National Puppy Day, so why not spoil them a little bit? Take them to one of the local dog parks in the afternoon, buy them a Puppuccino from Starbucks, or treat them to a spa day! You can bring your pups to Glamour Pet Salon & Spa or Unleashed Pet Resort and Spa.
