Today I had the pleasure of meeting the cutest dog all the way from Puerto Rico! I’ve never been lucky enough to visit the Island but was able to get the exclusive on adopting a dog from the location! Meet, Charlotte!
When is your birthday?
Since I was adopted and we’re not exactly sure of my birth date we follow my ‘Gotcha Day.’ This means my day of adoption. That is August 27th!
How old are you?
I’m about one year this month.
What breed are you?
I’m what they call, ‘Sato,’ in Puerto Rico, which means pure mutt. Mommy says I’m possibly Chihuahua, Collie or Mini Aussie. Whatever I am, I’m full grown now and the perfect size for apartment living! Maybe in the future, we’ll do a DNA test.
Do you have a social media account? And if so, how come?
Follow us on Instagram! @apuppynamedcharlotte
We love social media! We use my account to bring awareness to rescue in Puerto Rico as well as Jersey City and the surrounding area. It’s so important to us that we encourage adoption.
How did you get your name?
Mommy threw around a bunch of names of towns and flowers in Puerto Rico, but she couldn’t imagine yelling any of them out at the dog park. So we started thinking of other names that might have some meaning to them…favorite movie characters or old Hollywood actors. Nothing was sticking.
I was adopted while mommy was helping take care of her father-in-law, Charles, who was battling cancer. The name Charlotte came to mind, and we thought it a loving tribute to him. He passed away one week after we got her. We were blessed that he got to meet her, know her name and that she was with us to help us heal in the weeks after.
Favorite toy:
Any type of Kong! Especially with some yummy peanut butter inside!
How did you end up rescued in Jersey City coming from Puerto Rico?
I was about two months old, and because there is such a large stray dog community in Puerto Rico, I was going to be put to sleep. A shelter called, ‘The Sato Project’ located in Yabucoa, saved me. Mommy has family in Puerto Rico and had been going since she was a little girl. She was always convincing family members to take in strays and Care for them.
When she and daddy were ready to finally adopt their own dog in Jersey City she applied to shelters locally and in Puerto Rico! The Sato Project tries to adopt out to the United States mainly in NY and NJ. At the end of August, the shelter was flying out thirty dogs, and I was one of them. I met mommy on August 27th and it was the perfect match.
What’s your favorite spot in Jersey City to play?
We live in the Heights so our favorite spot is Washington Park. I love the dog run and jumping on rocks. My favorite activity is to run around and play chase there.
What’s your favorite spot in Jersey City for a dog treat?
We love K9dergarten not only because they have great treats and toys but because they host and support See Spot Rescued, a local Jersey City rescue. We’re all about promoting adoption!
Biggest fear?
Separation anxiety. I hate being left alone because of the experiences I’ve had.
Any tricks you like to show off?
Paw, up, down, sit, and sit pretty. I’m an expert at those.
Any interesting facts you’d like the Jersey City residents to know?
If you’re looking for a doggy model, I’m your girl! I’ve had the opportunity to do a few things for Etsy and hope to do more modeling in the future.

I love Charlotte’s story! I am in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and all my pet dogs (about 11 in my life,) have been strays. It’s a pity that animals in P. R. are not being treated more respectfully
