My best friend Corinne, who I grew up with in Montreal, works for an awesome winter apparel company called Toboggan Canada. Corinne is highly knowledgeable when it comes to winter gear, as she’s been in the industry forever (literally born into it). I was looking for a new winter coat and boots, and she recommended I get a Toboggan coat. Most Canadian down coats cost anywhere in between $1,000 and $4000, but Toboggan is actually very decently priced and worth every penny.
My coat and boots arrived a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wearing them ever since. In fact, as I write this from ChicpeaJC HQ, I have the coat wrapped around me. I am always cold!! I get stopped on the street constantly, people asking me where I bought it.
The Toboggan coat I got is so stylish, but most importantly it is really warm. So warm, in fact, you don’t really need to wear anything underneath!
I reached out to local photographer Joshua Tillman for a fun winter pin-up shoot to showcase my new favorite item in my closet.
Toboggan Canada also has jackets for men!
Go to toboggancanada.com, and be sure to follow them on Instagram and Twitter.
It is the perfect Christmas Gift…

Hello Lynn,
I read your piece on TOBOGGAN CANADA.
I have followed you for about 2 years. I learned of you when I saw a post of you on Another Man’s Treasure, Warren’s . IG.
I’m originally a Jersey City boy. I grew up in the Heights, lived on Bergen Hill, as a young adult, and I worked for The Educational Arts Team for 9 years. You did a story on the Team and my good friend Carmine about 18 months ago.).
I wanted to cmmt on your TOBOGGAN CANADA story. The reason Canada Goose’s or Mackage’s down filled coats are in the $800-2000 plus range is that they are Made in Canada, have a higher % of Goose Down, and most of the time include Real Fur trim. (Sheepskin, Coyote, Fox) The real fur being a product of Canada. Canada labor prices are just as high as USA. and as I’m sure you know, way higher than China.
There is nothing wrong with imported from China…not really. But there is much to say for Made in Canada or U.S.A. And much to say about the consumers that value spending more of their money on products made in North America.
And in reference to Real Fur, PETA is having problems with these Canadian outerwear companies because of their use of Coyote and Fox. (Lambskin fur is a food bi-product).
I’m Design Dir. for Schott NYC. a 103 year old family owned outerwear company that makes most of it’s products in New Jersey, we only use real fur on our styles that have fur trim. Both the use of genuine materials and where a product are made are two details dear to my heart.
I totally appreciate ChicpeaJC. I love that you more or less only promote JC. You make me miss my old home. I hope that you take this message as it is intended, not a criticism or TOBOGGAN CANADA, but simply someone who takes pride in and appreciates how and where products are made.
I thought this info would be useful for you to consider the next time you do a story on fashion products.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. charlie
