Hello, hope all is well! Seniors are amazing and they have paved the way for so many of us. This is one of my beautiful ways to show seniors how much I appreciate them. I hope you can learn from the senior community as much as I do.
Have a great time getting to know a senior that is in my Spotlight!
Angela: Who is Christa Atkins?
Christa: A simple person trying to survive and make my community a better place.
Angela: What is your age?
Christa: 72
Angela: Where are you from?
Christa: Berlin, Germany. I reside in Jersey City, New Jersey!
Angela: How are you living your best life?
Christa: I am still working to support myself and keep a roof over my head.
Angela: What role do you play in helping other seniors?
Christa: I help seniors with making their lives easier when dealing with government issues, applications recertifications, transportation to doctors, etc. I also try to encourage them to get off their butts and not give into their aliments and age. Life is too short to sit around and talk about what’s ailing you, instead tackle it and keep on pushing. I want them to get out and enjoy life as best as they can. This is why I do the monthly Bus Rides to show seniors that life is beautiful. I tell them that all they can do is reach out and do their best! I will say that the Community Garden at their housing complex is great as it gives our seniors a feeling of accomplishment and pride. They are able to grow vegetables for themselves which is a great feeling! I wish I had more resources, so I can do more. There are so many things we can accomplish such as, crafting, fashions, home decorating with simple ideas, but mostly we all can be more self-reliant.
Angela: What is your style?
Christa: I like the simple life (I bought a video the other day, of a movie that came out when I was 9 years old. Whenever I went home I would sit with my mom and we’d watch it together, each and every time, I went home Thanks to Amazon, I was able to purchase it. The movie is in my mother tongue, German (with English sub-titles). When it arrived, I was so happy, it is in three parts, I’m on part 2, this weekend I will watch part 3….smile. I love the Amish country simple live, nothing fancy, just a happy serene life.
Angela: What are three senior jewels that you would like to share?
Christa:
- Make the best of our life to please self.
- Enjoy people around you, and always keep an open mind.
- Open your mind to learn as much as you can, always, regardless of your age.
Angela: What are your thoughts about when Passion Meets Purpose?
Christa: I always tell young people, if you can build a career on your passion, you have the best of everything. Do what you love best and get paid for it…smile. That’s why I do crafting, I’ve sold some pieces that I’ve made. I’ve created floral arrangements for weddings that I’ve sold by order, but primarily it’s my hobby. My mom always wanted me to go to business school when I was young. They made a big mistake, they should have let me follow my creative side, but when I think back, listening to my Grandpa, I went to school, and I will say, it helped me in the long run.
Christa loves her community and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to share her with you!
Forever care!
