Lewis Spears is an educator, author, and activist born and raised in Jersey City. During his time teaching, he noticed that some of the young men in his class weren’t meeting certain academic benchmarks and he was inspired to create Kismet of Kings, an after-school organization dedicated to academic and character development. He later wrote a book, You Are the Answer to The Problem: From the Hood to Harvard and Back Again, to highlight his own life experiences in order to show how cycles can be broken. Lewis Spears is passionate about the community and actively encouraging the youth to become positive, productive individuals. We had the opportunity to sit down with him at El Sol del Caribe to learn all about him and his work.
