A few weeks ago, I went to Jersey City Tattoos to interview and get tattooed by Adam Patterson, the owner and tattooer of this dope local tattoo spot. I got two pieces done; a bow which doesn’t really have any meaning behind it other than me just liking them because they are cute…. and a quote “la vie en rose”.
It was time to show off my new ink, so I reached out to one of my most talented friends and photog, Andy Mac to hang out and take some dope pics. His post is actually on my top 10 most viewed articles since launching this blog and he is only 17!
I went to his studio with two outfits… a simple all white American Apparel dress, and an all black, samurai, inspired fierce look; vintage leather culottes and an American Apparel bra top.
It was such a fun shoot, we blasted music, I danced and even rapped to some Biggie….and since Andy is my friend now, I was able to just go with the flow, try new poses without over thinking them.
After getting these amazing pictures from Andy, I hit up young prodigy Kid Kold to work his editing magic. Andy and Kid are also friends and they collaborate often. I call them the #dreamteam. These two are beyond talented, and when they come together, magic happens.
Now back to the story behind my new tattoos… The only other tattoo on my body that has any significance is the anchor and rose I have on my back…. the anchor has the initial M for minichicpea’s first name and the rose is in homage to my mom who also has a rose on the exact location of her back.
I got “la vie en rose” on my arm because I have this happy memory from when I was a child sitting in the back of my parents car listening to Edith Piaf, a french singer from the 1950’s… she sings a song called “La vie en rose….”. Every time the song would come on it would give me this warm happy feeling.
I wanted to get this tattooed on my body as a reminder to myself to be positive and see the good in every situation. I don’t want to live life in black and white, or shades of grey. I want to live life in pink. I also think it’s quite adorable!
Je vois la vie en rose….
