ChicpeaJC is looking for new and fresh content, and we’re looking for passionate Jersey City locals to contribute! You’re only required to contribute one article a month. Please have some sort of writing experience and social media presence, as well as being able to take good photos. If you have access to a camera, that’s a plus.

We are looking for writers in the topics below:

Sports

• Must have knowledge of local sports and recreation scene
• High school and college sports
• Anything related to sports and recreation
• Article examples: Athlete profiles, season highlights, guides to playing sports in Jersey City

Arts & Culture

• Comfortable in any scene
• Examples of work: Artist interviews, covering gallery openings
• Must have experience in the art world
• If you’re an artist, it’s a plus (photography, street art, etc.)

Cheap Eats

• Uncovering meals $5 and under
• Must know underground/street food spots
• Anthony Bourdain style
• Must take good food photos!

Special Events

• Will be assigned events to cover
• Must have flexibility on evenings and weekends
• Must feel comfortable in various settings, friendly, etc.
• Have access to a good camera

Seniors

• Cool seniors in JC profiles
• Activities and events for seniors
• Health tips and more

Old School JC/ Jersey City Historian

• Interview JC natives who lived in the area pre-90s
• Example: Larry Mullane
• Share stories or history
• Must have a knack for history

Dive Bars

• Someone to write about the dive bar scene in JC

Listicle Contributor

• Must know ins and outs of JC (best spots)
• Likes to eat, doesn’t have any dietary restrictions, comfortable eating anything
• Tells it like it is

Pet contributor

• Must have a pet
• Loves animals
• Pet Profiles, pet friendly establishments etc

Real estate

• Must be in real estate
• Must know the market in Jersey City
• Examples: List-type articles, properties to see and prices
• “Cribs” style articles of eccentric homes in Jersey City

Singles

• Single guy or girl
• Column on Dating in JC

Finding JC’s Angels

• Focus on people who volunteer or generally make a positive impact on the community
• Stories on people who serve breakfast, work in soup kitchens, etc.

Travel + Getaways

• Not limited to JC, just in the proximity
• Daytime or weekend activities
• Example: hiking trails an hour from JC, getaways under an hour, a day in Montclair etc..

College contributors

• Students from NJCU and St. Peter’s University to cover the college scene

This opportunity is unpaid for three months. If you consistently contribute for three months, you will get paid $50 per article afterwards.
