Happy New Year friends! As my first fashion post of this year, I opted for a simple outfit. A pair of Diesel jeans I thrifted from E.Tittlemouse & Co (only $35!!) a white boyfriend t-shirt, a pair of white oxfords and a Tweed 5panel by local Jersey City hat peeps MBS.
Friend and photog Greg Pallante joined me on a roof top location to snap these pics. It was a cold day but I was so pumped and excited for the New Year and all the great things to come that I didn’t feel the cold. I am also usually so scared of heights but I felt bold, and just ran with it. So happy with these pictures!
This outfit reminds me of the 1943 poster “We Can Do it” but with a modern spin.
Now let’s get to the point of this post!
What is your New Years resolution? Eat better? Exercise more? Meditate? Many people have asked me what mine was… My New Years resolution is to be bolder, stronger and unstoppable.
But most importantly Happy! I am starting to really appreciate how far I’ve come and how much I’ve been able to do in the past 8 months. I’ve also learned many lessons this year that I would like to share with you all!
1. You Can’t Make Everyone Happy
Even though I am a people pleaser, I learned this year that no matter what you do, you just can’t please everyone, and that is ok! Now move on…
2. Be kind to yourself
I am the first one to say that I am extremely hard on myself, I think people have a tendency to really beat themselves down and what good does that do? I look at my toddler for example, when she looks at herself in the mirror, she smiles and giggles. When is the last time you did that? Be nice to yourself. If you wouldn’t say it to others don’t say it to yourself.
3. Haters gonna hate
It’s inevitable, the more successful you are the worst it gets. Let the hate fuel you to keep going and keep pushing, it’s a sign that whatever you are doing is working. Instead of fighting the hate just be cool yo, ignore it, you are better than that! One day the haters will need you and will come around, be welcoming when they do! Don’t fight negativity with negativity. All we need is love! Cue the Bob Marley music…
4. Don’t be Perfect, be Passionate
I get made fun sometimes for my spelling mistakes… I post almost every day and focus on the content that I put out there (I am getting better though according to my editor in chief Skate Mom, I know you are reading this) That being said, I am passionate which comes across in what I do. When you have passion those minor details don’t matter as much.
5. Take risks and go for it
Honestly, I am so scared of taking risks generally, like roller coasters, scary movies etc… So quitting my corporate job to blog was like bungie jumping for me! But I did it, I took a risk and went for it full force. Sometimes doing things that make you very uncomfortable (like wearing a semi sheer body suit at a photoshoot with the Big Hair Girls) will awaken you. Every single day I feel scared, but it makes me a better person. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and failing is not a bad thing, you need to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be boring!!
6. Dust yourself off and try again…
As the beautiful Aaliyah sings RIP, if you fall just get up, dust yourself off and try again. To make it anywhere in life you have to be persistent, you have to keep going and keep pushing. Only the strong will succeed. This is easier said than done, I know this from experience, but I also know that if you just keep believing in yourself things will eventually come around, things will happen.
What did you guys learn this year? Please share in the comment box or email me directly! would love to hear your thoughts!
