About a month ago, I made a call out on my social media looking for my next local stylish peep and someone tagged @arist0crat. Aris, was raised in Jersey City and has impeccable style, he actually does not fall into any category, he can basically pull off any kind of look and has no problem taking fashion risks and he owns it. We met up at the Grove Farmers market and we talked about fashion and of course Jersey City.
What’s your name? Aris Vallecer.
What do you do? I work at [the] Medical Center Maternity Ward.
What do you do in the Maternity Ward? Admitting. I admit the moms and the babies. They call [it] “The Miracle Floor.”
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever experienced? I’ve seen a lot of things happen. I would say it’s like a Maury episode, you get a lot of those cases.
That must being an entertaining job. It’s an experience honestly. I only been there for almost three years now. I was doing odd jobs, I was bartending, I was a bar-back, I used to work at Abbey’s and I was doing everything there. [And] eventually, I got in at the Medical Center. It’s nice, honestly.
What are you wearing? I am wearing a Dashiki that I got for like $14 on Newark Ave. by the White Castle, I just hopped around. I love prints and it’s just the material, it’s so light and I think its Indian batik. Some bracelets I got from here (Grove Street Farmers Market), some prayer Buddha beads from my brother, and the pin.
How about your hat, shorts, and shoes? Hat is from H&M from five years ago, shorts [are from] Target, and shoes are Clarks, wallabies, comfortable.
Do you have a favorite spot to shop at in Jersey City? I go into to Another Man’s Treasure. They have a lot of cool pieces.
What’s your favorite Jersey City hangout spot? Downtown and towards the Waterfront Exchange Place.
What about a favorite restaurant or bar? I like the Coffee Shop because it’s cheap and they play good music.
Do you live in Jersey City? Were you born and raised here? Yeah, raised in Jersey City.
How do you feel about the change in Jersey City? I think it’s a good thing, it’s a long time coming. I’ve seen a lot of things and I just feel like they should focus more outside of downtown ‘cause downtown is already up and coming. Other neighborhoods need a little bit more work, I mean eventually.
What neighborhood do you live in? I grew up in [the] Marion section, towards Puccini’s, like the other side of West Side and now I live towards Danforth, yeah, the Greenville area.
How would you define your style? I would say classic, traditional, New England, preppy. Except for today, but I am not restricted to any kind of styles. I could pull off a lot of things. I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to like trends and following fashions and what not. My go-to is usually traditional, classic, you can’t go wrong.
Where can people find you? You can find me [in] Downtown just walking around really. I’m usually just riding my bike around the neighborhood.
Your brother owns Chilltown? Yeah, they’re everywhere.
Anything else you’d like people to know about you? I’m a social person, so if you see me at the bar, you recognize me. Hey, we’ll have a drink or two.
