As part of LGBT week I wanted to interview diverse individuals who can represent the community here in Jersey City. A friend of mine put me in touch with Aisling to be my stylish peep for this week! We met around grove path to do her mini photoshoot, and she is gorgeous!! Tall, beautiful skin, genuine smile, and she photographs really well!
What’s your name? Aisling
How do you pay the bills? I am a janitor.
What are you wearing? I don’t know! I am one of those people that doesn’t look at labels, if it looks good I wear it!
Tell me about yourself. I am an open book, the thing is when you are Trans you don’t always feel part of the community. It’s a conversation that comes up with people who been at it for a while. I’ve been cross dressing since I was a kid and I would hang out and go out in this area.
I am a trans woman, I identify myself as a female. The thing about being Trans is there are different levels…In the trans community there are 3 levels of your transition and depending on what you are comfortable with, you stay with it… There’s the cross dressers, pre-op transexual, then the third is post op. Most women I know they either the first or the second. It’s different for a lot of people.
Not everything is black and white, everything is in shades of grey. I am different shades of grey, I am not a perfect person.
How long have you been in Jersey City? Been working here since I am 16. Funny enough the same year was the time I stopped trying to live as a female because it was scary. Throughout the whole time I tried to kill the female part of me and that obviously didn’t workout. At that age I was very vulnerable… there is no glamour to the life that we live, but we can’t help it. We are who we are!
What is your favorite thing to wear? I love maxi dresses! I am tall so every time I wear a maxi dress people turn their heads!
