August is really one of the trickiest shopping months. While we are all spending our days off at the beach, the local shop owners are stocking up for the upcoming season. As fall approaches, the need for outerwear pops up and the options this year are endless. Now is the perfect time to snag that sleek leather bomber or on-trend sleeveless blazer to pair over your white lace dress now or with your perfect fall denim later.  Today I traveled around to some of Downtown, Jersey City’s shops and uncovered some great vintage and new finds.

A leather jacket is always a no brainer – it can be worn on the shoulders with denim shorts, with pants, or over a great dress and heels. I love to throw mine on over a tee with jeans for an effortless cool vibe. My favorite find today was a vintage leather jacket with embroidered details and fringe at Another Man’s Treasure (AMT); it wouldn’t take much to look cool in this amazing piece.

I also found an oversized denim jacket, which is good for any season.  In winter, I layer my denim jacket under a winter military style coat for an extra layer, which looks super cute popping out. Bottom line, if you don’t have a denim jacket, get one.

Other great finds included a sleeveless layering blazer at Tia’s Place and a polka dot cardigan at AMT – both perfect for the in-between season – and some fun accessories to pair with your jackets at Feena, including scarves and some awesome leather bucket bags.  One of my all-time favorites are military jackets, which are in stock at Very on Erie Street and are huge right now.

So step out and explore some of Jersey City’s amazing local retailers and snag yourself an easy transition piece while you can!
