Now that we’re spending more time than ever in our homes, our morning routines have been a little altered. You may be starting your days later than usual or simply looking for something to do day in and day out. Whatever challenges you’re facing, starting your day off right is essential to being productive while at home. So, take this time as the perfect opportunity to complete tasks you’ve procrastinated on or just didn’t have the time to start. Try to make the most out of this stay-at-home order with some simple tips to set you up for your best days yet.
Declutter your morning space
Most of us probably have our room or bathroom filled with items we haven’t used or even looked at in years. While they may feel like they are out of sight and out of mind because they’re in cabinets or drawers, you should take time to go through everything. Clutter and the lack of an organized space can cause a huge amount of stress you didn’t even know was there, and it can be easy to feel unmotivated in this kind of space. Consider buying versatile storage bins for these designated areas to help you get organized. Once you’ve decided what’s staying and what’s getting donated/thrown out, systemize your remaining belongings. Not only will this uniformity help you feel more at ease, but it will also take away that moment of panic when you can’t find that one, particular item!
Get your heart rate up
This is crucial for accomplishing a productive day. Morning workouts are a great way to naturally boost your energy levels after waking up. Your workouts don’t have to be time-consuming or as intense as an entire HIIT class. A simple walk around the block or some jumping jacks before eating breakfast can help lower your stress levels. You could even look through YouTube for apartment-friendly workouts! It’s recommended that we get at least 30 minutes of physical activity in a day and the morning provides the perfect time to take care of that.
Take a social media break in the morning
These days, this can be more of a challenge than anything else. Typically, we wake up and go right to our phones or laptops to endlessly scroll through the latest feed on Instagram or scan through the updated news. Try not to make this a habit when you first wake up. Instead, take some time for yourself – read a few pages from your favorite book or sip your coffee outside. When we begin our day fully immersed in social media, it can set the tone for the rest of the day. First, allow yourself to fully wake up and warm up for the rest of the day. Even just 15 minutes of no screen time can make a world of a difference.
Once you get your morning underway, give yourself an interesting activity to do for the rest of the day. Social distancing can be mentally draining, so any little project or goal you give yourself will be extremely beneficial.
