My little one takes an art class at the Tiny Greenhouse here in Jersey City. Mia is only 21 months old, and before signing her up I thought to myself “only in America do you send a toddler that barely talks to art class..” seat your kid at a table with a bunch of crayons and watch him paint the walls! Done deal. Clearly I was being ignorant. This place is not about having your kid become the next Sean Lugo but its about practicing sensory skills, being around other kids, and just having a good time!
I took Mia to one of her classes and it was so fun! I am definitely creative but I can’t draw/paint/sculpt for the life of me. My stick men even look awful…. so this was actually a good introductory class for me!
The first thing we did was draw on the table using chalk…. now where else can you do that without getting yelled at?
They brought out bins of sand which is made out of flour and vegetable oil ( so its safe if the kids or parents ingest it accidentally) , we built little sand castles and it felt kind of nice ! Mia sat this one out, she doesn’t really like to get her hands dirty….talk about a girly girl….
We did so much, we painted , played with playdoh (which brought back a lot of memories), we even took a quick music break to play with some instruments and sing (or more like babble). What I love about the Tiny Greenhouse is that they use recycled materials for all the artwork!
The art teachers are also super sweet, patient and attentive with the toddlers. It was a really fun class and it FLEW by! We created some wonderful pieces of art that I am really proud of. I mean really proud of my daughter…. Now I need a nap.
