The Mayor sent out a newsletter confirming Jersey City is finally getting the option to pay for parking on our phones!
IT GOES LIVE ON MONDAY. Woo!
Does that mean less tickets? Less hassle looking for change? Forgetting to fill the meter? The anxiety, am I right?! Feels like JC was the last to do this. Parking isn’t that great here (I’m not being negative, its just facts), and this is a topic for a whole other blog post, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
The meters will remain for now, you can still use the meters or pay for it on the phone. Down the road, you will also be able to pay for zoning parking. So instead of going to the parking authority on Central Ave, you’ll be able to pay for your permit on the app.
A lot of other cities do this, we aren’t the first, that’s for sure. We may be a little behind, but it’s finally happening. This will improve efficiency, it will also collect better data for the city, and hopefully improve the parking situation.
Here’s what the Mayor said:
We’re continuously looking for ways to incorporate technology and innovation in all we do here in Jersey City. And I know that sometimes paying for parking, or even a parking ticket, can feel like a hassle – from finding loose change to worrying about how much time you have left on the meter.
This is now a thing of the past here in Jersey City. Starting this week, you’ll be able to use your phone to pay for metered parking through an app called ParkMobile. Through the app, you can keep track of the time you have left and even extend your parking session remotely.
And as you see ParkMobile stickers on meters throughout the City, you might have also noticed another tech installation in each ward: the new digital kiosks. The dynamic kiosks serve as a resource for our City as they provide information about community updates, emergency alerts, real-time transportation information, and much more.
ParkMobile and the digital kiosks are more tools that help bring convenience to your lives as we continue to modernize and move Jersey City forward
What do you guys think about this?
