I am familiar with the co-working space concept, but not so much co-living. I was invited to a fun party at Nu Heights JC, a co-living space located in the Heights of Jersey City. I didn’t really know what to expect!
The creation of the Nu Heights co-living space started from the realization that rent is getting higher and people can barely afford to live on their own. The space was created with a focus on the benefits of co-living and shared housing, especially in an urban city. Nu Heights matches roommates together that end up signing one jointly bound 12 month lease. They have had incredible success because they are providing a price point that is within 25% of their tenants income (average tenants in the NYC area pay 50% of income to rent). Nu Heights spaces have furnished living rooms, patios, and beautiful granite/stainless kitchens.
The wonderful people behind Nu-Heights invited me to a fun party for their tenants. When I arrived they were playing Cards Against Humanity and getting to know each other. It was awesome. Michelle, who works for Nu Heights, gave me a tour of the co-living space which was really well decorated. I was super impressed. I asked her a few questions and she told me that all their tenants are young professionals in between the ages of 20 and 35.
The prices per person range between $725 and $1200 depending on the size and location! What I love about this concept is that they truly seem to care about their tenants and making it possible for them to meet new people. I’m looking forward to more of their events!
