Does anyone else agree that August is like the Sunday of the summer?! I mean, it’s legit a month-long reminder that the summer is about to end and whatever double life you were living is now over. You should basically start getting ready for Christmas since it’s already starting to get cold. But don’t worry! Just because the summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean Babes of JC is. Meet Alicia @alideleonmusic
Alicia Rivas is a singer/rapper, songwriter, actress, McNair Academic alum, Jersey City native with a powerhouse personality. Her artist name is Ali de León, which is her mother’s maiden name.
1. What do you currently do for a living and what is your dream job?
I currently act, sing/rap, song write, I am a caregiver, and recently just started to DJ! My dream job would be anywhere in the entertainment industry.
2. What is your favorite place to hang out or eat in Jersey City?
Porta!
3. How does it feel to be nominated as a JC babe?
I feel honored and grateful.
4. What are 3 random facts about yourself?
• I am a fraternal twin,
• I am an FDU Theatre Alum,
• I played volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school!
5. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done or wanted to do?
I would love to conquer my fear of heights by skydiving!
6. What do you love most about Jersey City?
Simply put, I love our diversity.
Meet Harold @haroldthethird
Wassup Fam, I’m Harold Daniels, III; born and raised here in Jersey City. Not known for any one thing, but for a few things that include but are not limited to singing, acting, dancing, fashion designing and most recently the political realm. I’m a 25 year old mogul, finishing my degree in politics from New Jersey City University in May 2019. I’m one to let my successes and victories speak for myself, so I’ll cut this short.
1. What do you currently do for a living and what is your dream job?
Currently, I’m working with the NYC Department of Education as an Operations Associate as apart of a summer fellowship. Ultimately, I want to be an educator in any of my fields of interest or expertise.
2. What is your favorite place to eat or hang out in Jersey City?
PORTA!!!
3. How does it feel to be nominated as a JC babe?
Yo, it feels dope. I feel like I’ve connected with so many great people here that will agree with this nomination, so I’m here to enjoy it while it lasts!
4. What are 3 random facts about yourself?
• I love eating oatmeal iced cookies with bologna (don’t hate me, guys)
• Patron is my favorite drink (it’s good for you)
• I’ve find walking from Bayonne to Journal Square pretty therapeutic
5. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done or wanted to do?
I want to go skydiving.
6. What do you love most about Jersey City?
I love the diversity, but more so, I love seeing my generation embrace the diversity of Jersey City!
Meet Irene! @irinkabarnaby23
Irene Kira Barnaby was born in Republic of Georgia, moved to the US when she was a teenager and has called Jersey City home for 14 years. She is an avid traveler, loves animals, does yoga and enjoys kicking some serious real estate butt.
1. What do you currently do for a living and what is your dream job?
I am one of the top real estate brokers in Downtown JC. I truly love what I do. It can be very demanding at times but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
2. What is your favorite place to eat or hang out in Jersey City?
I always say, “All roads lead to South House.” But I love Lutze Beirgarten in the summertime because I can bring my 130 pound Great Dane/Lab mix Frankie, meet new people, play games and take in the views.
3. How does it feel to be nominated as a JC babe?
It feels fan-freaking-tastic! I am very flattered and I am feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.
4. What are 3 random facts about yourself?
I speak 3 languages fluently, I’ve been to 46 countries so far, and my dream is to go an Indian wedding (which will come true this September!)
5. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done or wanted to do?
I would say lead a pretty daring lifestyle. I once swam across the Amazon River in the jungles of Brazil. I loved the water so I hopped in as soon as we arrived. I knew it would be dangerous, but I later learned that this part of the river had an especially high concentration of piranha, alligators, and anacondas. I’ve also been skydiving six times, bungee jumped off of the highest bridge in Auckland, New Zealand, hand glided in Rio and para glided Australia!
6. What do you love most about Jersey City?
I love so many aspects of Jersey City, but if I had to name one it would be its people. Especially some of the incredibly talented local the artists like Robert Piersanti, Norman Kirby, Dylan Eagon, and Thomas Carlson.
Meet Brian @briandavidplatt
Brian Platt is currently Jersey City’s Business Administrator, which is similar to a Chief Operating Officer for city government.
1. What do you currently do for a living and what is your dream job?
I am currently the Business Administrator for the city of Jersey City. The role is similar to Chief Operating Officer for a city government. I’ve worked under Mayor Fulop for over 5 years now and have loved solving problems across the city, driving progressive improvements to the way our city government functions, and pushing to better support our residents and businesses. As far as a dream job, I’ve always wanted to start a blog about local arts and culture for Jersey City.
2. What is your favorite place to hang out or eat in Jersey City?
I love exploring all of the unique new restaurants and businesses opening across the city and it’s hard to pick one place. #copout

4. What are 3 random facts about yourself?
• I was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years and currently serve as a volunteer medical first responder with United Rescue here in Jersey City.
• I’ve competed nationally in olympic weightlifting and used to coach weightlifting at Crossfit Jersey City.
• I taught kindergarten in Newark with Teach For America.
5. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done or wanted to do?
Pass.
6. What do you love most about Jersey City?
The thing I love most about Jersey City has been the incredible opportunity to be a part of its growth and transformation over the past 5 years. This city faces many interesting and unique challenges but also has many interesting opportunities. I’m proud of the work we have done and I’m excited about what comes next.
