Trader Joe’s recently opened their new location in Hoboken. It seems like most of us who live on this side of Hudson County have been waiting for this to happen for a while. As you all know I encourage people to shop local, especially at the farmer’s markets during the summer months, as well as local specialty shops which we have an abundance of. That being said, we all need to stock up on essentials like dry foods, snacks etc every so often and Trader Joe’s is cheap AF in comparison to other grocery shops in the vicinity. You can also get organic foods without breaking the bank like whole wallet…I mean whole foods.
We went today to check it out, on a Sunday, a few days after it opened. I knew it was going to be pretty chaotic… and well it was. That being said, it wasn’t as terrible of an experience as I expected and my fridge is now full with a lot of snacks but nothing to really eat. I am very happy, but might hit up the Farmer’s market tomorrow anyway. This is everything you need to know about Trader Joe’s in Hoboken.
Parking
There is indoor parking on premises, the first hour is free if you get your ticket validated. Every hour thereafter costs $2, not sure why anyone would want to spend more time here but no judgements… Even though the store was very busy, there was more than enough parking. Depending on traffic it took us 20 minutes to drive there from downtown Jersey City.
If you do not have a car:
You can LYFT or Uber and it will cost you approx $15. Otherwise use one of those map apps and figure out how to get there yourself. You can get there via bus, PATH and light rail. What do I look like? google? HA.
Disclaimer:
If you have any sort of anxiety, or fear of crowds, I highly recommend going on a weekday and not a weekend. I felt a little bit dizzy at a point when trying to squeeze in between carts to get some cheese that was on sale. It wasn’t pretty.
Trader Joe’s refund policy lit
They have an amazing refund policy. They will take back anything, even if you ate it. They have a “hassle” free policy, which is pretty awesome. Mia opened a bag of cheese (yes we love cheese) and the cashier offered to bring us a new one even after we explained that we ate from it!!
A lot of cashiers/Easy check out process:
There were about 25 cashiers when we were ready to pay, so even though the store was jammed packed we didn’t have to wait in line for long to pay and they bagged everything for us. It was nice. Bring your own bags!
No booze at this location
Unlike other Trader Joe’s shops in the city where you can buy wine for like $4, they do not sell liquor at this location. Oh well.
It’s pretty cheap
I was hungry when we went there so I basically bought whatever I wanted and filled the cart with 3 weeks of snack food.
Can you guess the tally?
$163
I buy half this amount sometimes at Fresh Direct when I am having a busy week and pay double the price.
Staff are so nice and friendly
Everyone that works there is so damn friendly. I didn’t feel like I was in New Jersey! Good times. They even gave my little one a bunch of stickers which entertained her for a total of 2 minutes.
And finally, a few of my favorite Trader Joe things:
