Happy National Fried Chicken Day!
A fun fact about me, growing up, once a month my parents would order a massive amount of fried chicken, this was something we would all really look forward to. My dad would call me the morning of and let me know that tonight would be the night and not to make any plans. We would all wait in the kitchen in anticipation for the fried chicken he would bring home. We would stand around eating all the food in silence. It’s a really fond childhood memory for some reason and every time I crave fried chicken I know it’s because I am missing my family.
I reached out to friend and photographer Nabil to join me on a chicken tour. Pre-ChicpeaJC HQ we used to do it almost every week, and it was time for us to reunite again.
It seems like the fried chicken spots in JC are late night favorites. This is why we compiled a list of your top 3 late-night fried chicken spots but if you’re like me this list is suitable if you just have a craving!
Nabil recommended we go to Kennedy Fried Chicken, Crown Fried Chicken, and Hollywood Fried Chicken downtown.
First Stop: Kennedy Fried Chicken
50 Sip Ave
This one is Nabil’s favorite, so we decided to start here. This spot was already at an advantage since we were both extremely hungry! We ordered a three piece with fries combo. The chicken was really delicious, not too greasy, super crunchy on the outside and very moist on the inside (I hate that word). The fries were perfectly salted. I wasn’t planning on eating as much as I did but it was like drugs, and I couldn’t stop.
Second Stop: Crown Fried Chicken
40 Crescent Ave.
Crown Fried Chicken is a local favorite and the one that multiple people have told me to go to. To be really honest with you guys, it was obviously really good, but Kennedy’s tasted a little bit better in my opinion. Now, this could be because we were a lot hungrier…. This is weird to say about a late night chicken spot, but I actually preferred the “ambiance” in here and could totally see myself hanging with friends here after a late night of drinking/smoking sessions. #munchies
Hollywood Fried Chicken
200 Newark Ave
With full stomachs, we headed downtown to Hollywood Chicken. This place is always packed on weekend nights! The chicken was very well seasoned, and we also got an actual biscuit which was really delicious. The fries were a little crunchier then previous spots; I like my fries well done. What about you?
To answer your question, no we didn’t eat it all. Nabil and I split the leftovers and took it home to eat for dinner. I think I satisfied my fried chicken cravings and should be good till the next month!
What’s your favorite spot?
