Cafe Peanut is a really cute cafe that opened recently in Journal Square across from the courthouse. I’ve heard many great things, so when I was summoned for jury duty – which I wasn’t chosen for and totally lucked out – I had a little break and checked them out. They were super busy, but I was greeted by one of the owners and ordered a matcha latte with an avocado toast (of course, because I’m basic like that). I sat in the back room, looked around, and thought to myself, “I don’t feel like I’m in Journal Square in Jersey City.” It really gave me Euro cafe vibes and I loved it.

The food is super fresh, the avocado toast was fantastic. It was the perfect weekday lunch. After posting my meal on my ChicpEATS Instagram, Cafe Peanut reached out to me, inviting me to come back to chat and try more food. Little did I know, behind Cafe Peanut is the cutest couple who are not only partners in life but partners in business. They greeted us wearing sweaters – he wore “The Boss” and she wore “The Real Boss.”

They have Wi-Fi so you can work from their shop, and people from all walks of life come in. It really is a melting pot and what makes Jersey City so unique. I love them and can’t wait to go back!
