Dining in an igloo… in May? Completely here for it! These dining bubbles have caught my eye all winter as a trendy and private place to dine during the pandemic.* I thought they would disappear by spring and summer, but with the flap open and a breeze blowing through, it’s a very cozy springtime experience.
I got the chance to bubble-dine at Bistro La Source, a restaurant serving French fare at 85 Morris St in Jersey City. Not only did the unique seating catch my eye, but I was told great things about their mussels.
You can start your meal with a charcuterie board or a big plate of mussels served in garlic, shallots, white wine, and butter, like me and my companion did. They have six other choices for mussel broth, like Madras Curry and Thai. They also have some classic starters you would expect to find at a French restaurant like escargots and french onion soup, and also starters like oysters and calamari.
For the main course, our waiter recommended the beef short rib bourguignon, braised in red wine with bacon, mushrooms, onions, carrots and potatoes. The meat was so juicy and broke apart at the touch of my fork. My companion got the grilled ahi tuna on salad niçoise – great for anyone who loves more of a seafood taste. If these don’t sound right for you, they have a menu that will cater to anyone, including burgers, fish and chips and ravioli. Check it out here. Sweet tooth? They have desserts too!
Overall, this is a great spot for date night or brunch with the girls. Find them on Instagram at: @bistrolasource to learn more.
They take reservations, but if they are booked, Light Horse Tavern (located right across the street), also offers the igloo experience.

*While it has been reported that due to ventilation, these bubbles may not be as safe, I encourage you to make the choices that are right for you and your friends and family.
