Alright, let’s admit some stuff here guys, we can be lazy AF when it comes to certain things, especially food, but have no fear! I will do these D.I.Y’s so you don’t have to! I have decided to make a whole series called “Do It Yourself, Lazy Bums” or D.I.Y.L.B for short and the first in this series is D.I.Y avocado toast!
These instructions are extremely easy to understand so even those who are not cooking savvy can get this. No worries fam, I got you guys!
What You’ll Need (feeds 2-3 people)
- 3 avocados
- 1 red onion
- 1 radish
- 3 eggs
- bread (preferably one that toasts easily)
- blue cheese
- salt
- pepper
- garlic
The first thing my fiancé and I always do before anything is put the onion in the freezer. We all know that it sucks to cut onions because it makes you cry, but what we’ve done is stab the onion a few times and then leave it in the freezer for a few minutes. Somehow, and with some science (I guess LOL), the onion’s aroma isn’t as powerful. Cut the onion enough that it’ll mix into the avocado without a problem.
Next you’ll want to thinly cut up the radish. This will just be a garnish for the end result but I find is still as important to make it look cafe worthy.
Now for the most important part: the avocado! When choosing the right avocado, you want to feel its density. You don’t want an extremely hard avocado because that means it’s not ripe enough, but you also don’t want an avocado that is too squishy. This is where your toast will either be tasty or eh. Finding the right avocado is a skill, so make sure you feel up on all those avocados in the supermarket to find your perfect match.
Cutting it in half makes it easier to scoop out the content and make your job easier, and I know we all love easy. To scoop it out, either use a spoon or a fork and pop it out of the shell.
Now you’re going to want to mix your red onion, salt, garlic, pepper and blue cheese with your avocado. Make sure you taste test to see if you added enough of your seasonings.
Now get your bread and toast it. Depending on your own preference, keep it in there for as long as you like. Me, I prefer my toast light.
Now for the eggs, get some oil on hand and pour a generous amount into a pan. Please be careful while cooking, fire is dangerous LOL.
Crack your egg, and make sure your flame isn’t too high. With the oil that’s around the egg, put some on top to allow the egg to cook.
And then bam!
Add the egg to the top of your toast and then garnish with the radish. If you’d like, add some salt crystals and voila, your avocado toast is done!
My total cost of everything came out to about $10 dollars (12 eggs, loaf of bread, 3 avocados), which is a huge steal depending on how much you’d like to spend on avocado toast.
If you guys have any D.I.Y ideas you’d like for me to try, let me know in the comments below!
