A few weeks ago, we announced the amazing news that Sushi By Bou would be opening their popular Sushi Omakase experience in the back of Ani Ramen. We had the pleasure of trying it out in the city with the Ani Ramen team and it was love at first bite.
Since then, Sushi By Bou had a soft opening and media night which we just had to get in on. You know, for “research” purposes. A this point, we’ve tried it enough times to comfortably say Sushi By Bou is fucking delicious.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the concept, Sushi by Bou offers a timed omakase experience (60 minutes/12 pieces/$50pp) where the choice of sushi is left entirely to the Chef and the Chef is free to be innovative, even surprising in the dish offerings of the freshest of fish, locally sourced or brought in from all over the world. The seasoned Sushi Chefs serve guests directly, guiding them through the meal, providing a truly exclusive and personalized experience.
I had the pleasure of meeting the brains and knife skills behind Sushi by Bou, celebrity Chef David Bouhadana. A Jewish Sushi Chef!
“David Bouhadana is a sushi expert who discovered his love for the craft while in Boca Raton, Fla., as an 18-year-old waiter. In order to hone his sushi-making skills and become one of the most established sushi chefs in New York City, Bouhadana spent most of his early 20’s training in the Kansai region of Japan with masters of sushi preparation” – Source
After he came back to the States, he worked in the top sushi restaurants in Manhattan and has since opened his own signature Omakase restaurant… actually, a few of them. Sushi by Bou currently has locations inside the Jue Lan Club in Chelsea, Sanctuary Hotel in Times Square, both in the lobby and inside of a hotel room at Hotel 3232 in Nomad, at the iconic former Versace Mansion in Miami, and now Jersey City! Hi!!
Chef David was in attendance at the Friends and Family Night and Media Night, and I had the utmost pleasure getting served by him. If you frequent sushi spots, the chef generally doesn’t talk to you. Chef David doesn’t shut up and he’s hilarious. He is also my future ex-husband (he just doesn’t know it yet).
To reiterate, you have 60 minutes to eat & drink, you eat what the Chef gives you. They do ask if you have any allergies or food sensitivities. That being said, if you’re not the tiny bit adventurous, this might not be for you.
The only menu you do receive is the drink menu. The drinks are fantastic and strong, so you’re surely going to feel really nice within the hour.
Sushi by Bou will be open during the following hours:
Lunch: Friday through Sunday, 12pm-3pm
Dinner: Sunday through Thursday, 5pm-10pm; Friday & Saturday, 5pm-1am.
Last seating is an hour prior to closing and reservations can be made at sushibybou.com and yelp.com. No takeout or delivery available. Private parties/buyout available, please inquire at party@sushibybou.com.
