Café Talya is number one on my list of favorite cafes in Bayonne, New Jersey. This café made its grand appearance on 49th street and Avenue B. on September 1, 2012. The location is a perfect walking distance for any uptown resident. I currently do not live near the area anymore, but I personally loved having a café not too far from my house where I can take a nice stroll whenever I craved a dainty cup of coffee.
This café made an outstanding impression with their cultural meals and became popular with social media and word of mouth from satisfied customers, including myself. The café’s goal is to deliver delicious Turkish – Mediterranean entrees. The hours are reasonable for a delicious Sunday breakfast, an ideal Thursday lunch or any day in between (except Mondays when they are closed). The friendly staff starts their days at 7:30 in the morning and close at 3:00 in the afternoon. A variety of cultural omelets stand out the most, the Talya Spicy omelet being the most popular order. The menu consists of different cuisines for breakfast and lunch for altered preferences. I highly recommend the Vanilla Bean Pancakes for breakfast (or even lunch, because it is that good!). My taste buds were extremely happy the first time I tried it.
Coated with powdered sugar, maple syrup, decorative orange slices on the side, and with a cup of Java, my stomach was content and satisfied. Surrounded by four light green walls, there is limited seating and space with four tables and a countertop for additional seating, but I promise it is worth the wait. In a way, the space works for its light atmosphere. Café Talya’s Facebook page from top to bottom displays uplifting and positive reviews from the Bayonne Community. I definitely give this place 5/5 stars! The staff is patient, attentive, and affectionate with their customers that will guarantee everyone to go back again. You also cannot go wrong with their delightful food! Check out Cafe Talya, you will not regret it!
Café Talya Background
Mert Kalayci is the proud owner of this successful café. The inspiration behind the diverse food comes from his Turkish background. Talya, or Antalya, is a city in Turkey Mert was born and raised in, and is a popular tourist city. Influenced by his family of chefs, Mert began his career in the culinary field. He came to the United States in 1999, learned English in Indiana, and traveled to New York in 2005 to attend the Institute of Cooking. He also had an internship at the Hyatt in Jersey City. Before Talya opened, Mert had first planned on using the space as a storage facility for catering gigs but instead, pursued his dream of opening his own business. Café Talya landed at the top for an amazing career. Today, Mert and Becka satisfy customers together as she is the waitress, raising beautiful twins, and continue to dream of more accomplishments, starting with a bigger space and possibly a chain of Café Talyas. They owe all their achievements to the community, saying “The customers are our family.”
