Jersey City is full of food variety, and restaurants are opening up every few months. Here are some spots we’re looking forward to visiting! Let us know if we missed any spots that just opened or are coming soon.
Who doesn’t love a good list, am I right?!
(For the record, we at ChicpeaJC prefer the stories about people/community/culture, ya know?! But we understand, FOOD IS LIFE)
So, enjoy :)
Now Open
The Cliff recently opened in the Heights and they have a great amount of options! They focus their attention on healthy and fulfilling meals that are good for anyone – vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike! You can enjoy a veggie burger, a biscuit breakfast sandwich, or a simple Watermelon Mint Juice. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this place.
Pampita Meat Shop
393 Central Avenue
If you know anything about Argentinian cuisine, beef (especially asado) is a big part of their meals! Pampita Meat Shop is an Argentine meat shop in the Heights that serves quality meats, grass-fed beef, and a selection of Argentine or American cuts. Stop by Pampita, just in time for barbecue season!
Opening Soon
Gringo’s is the next taco spot opening up in Jersey City, expected to open in July. From what we can tell, there are plenty of delicious dishes to look forward to! They have a veg-friendly field taco, a vegan and gluten-free fried avocado taco, and a duck taco ready for their menu. Best part… OUTDOOR SEATING. Margaritas outside, with some yummy tacos… sounds like heaven. Should Taqueria be worried?
DoShe Korean BBQ & Bar
8 Erie Street
DoShe is expected to open where Bell + Gray once stood, right next to Talde. They’re expected to open very soon and everything’s been a bit of a secret so far. I walked by there recently while they were doing some construction. They opened the door and saw that I was peeking in, they slammed the door shut. From what I could tell, it’s going to be a good one.
I have memories of the old Hardgrove that used to be located on the corner of Grove and Christopher Columbus. The first night after moving from NYC to HC, Hardgrove was the first place we ate at. I remember eating a Cuban sandwich and drinking a cold beer #Memories. Hardgrove 2.0 is reopening in a new location on Newark Ave. It is taking the place of the old favorite hangout spot Port-o. They have an amazing backyard area, and I’m excited to go back for a Cuban sandwich.
Cava Grill
30 Montgomery Street
Cava one step closer to opening! You can see the signs on their windows at 30 Montgomery Street. It’s opening right near Exchange Place and, based on their other locations, we can expect a delicious variety of Mediterranean foods prepared in a bowl of our choice!
Low Fidelity Bar
328 Palisade Ave
Low Fidelity is opening up in the Heights this season! Thanks to the owners of The Archer, Low Fidelity will be a bar with some traditional American bites.
Hooked will be opening hopefully in the beginning of July and serve a delicious variety of seafood! Finally, another seafood spot!
The Factory
451 Communipaw Ave
The Factory is a lounge bar expected to open very soon. Looking at the menu, The Factory seems like heaven. There’s picada, churrasco, lobster tail, burrata salad, and more!
