I recently took a trip to Boston, Massachusetts with family to celebrate my birthday. I eat plant-based foods by circumstance (shout out to lactose intolerance) and my aunt is celiac, making every meal a meticulously planned stop. While planning the weekend trip, we made sure we had a list of restaurant options that catered to our respective dietary restrictions while also providing tasty food for the non-restricted eaters with us. Thankfully, Boston and its surrounding cities offer a huge selection of options.
Here are 5 spots that offer vegan and gluten-free foods, from breakfast to dessert, in Boston and Cambridge!
Veggie Galaxy
Veggie Galaxy is entirely vegetarian and everything on the menu can be made vegan. It runs like a diner, so you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at any point in the day. We stopped by for breakfast since they also have gluten-free (GF) options, and we were able to enjoy dishes like Chicken & Waffles, Avocado Benedict, and a BLT.
Please note that not all GF options are suitable for celiacs. Always ask the server for clarification.
110 Grill
If you’re looking for a filling lunch or dinner, 110 Grill has a section on their menu dedicated to vegetarian dishes and most can be made vegan. They have scratch kitchens, so the foods are made to order and they also have a separate GF menu. Dishes that are made free of certain allergens are clearly marked when brought out by the server.
The Friendly Toast
The Friendly Toast is a diner that has something for everyone. It gets pretty packed, which comes as no surprise since they offer delicious food with dietary options in a retro-style restaurant. All options are clearly marked gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan on the menu and they also serve a large selection of drinks.
My Thai Vegan Cafe
I think most people would agree that Thai food is top 5. My Thai Vegan Cafe offers all your favorite Thai dishes made vegan! Stop by to try some classic Thai dishes like Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad See Ew, or Gaeng Kiow Wahn. My Thai Vegan Cafe also offers a large selection of bubble tea flavors made with coconut milk.
FoMu
FoMu is an all vegan ice cream shop and cafe that serves coconut-based ice cream, baked treats, smoothies, and more. The shops are lined with artwork, making it a chill place to hangout while you enjoy a scoop of one of their signature flavors. They’re allergen-friendly with products free of dairy and egg, and they offer gluten-free cones and baked goods.
