It’s National Mac and Cheese Day on July 14th!
With plenty of amazing spots in the area that offer tasty mac and cheese, why not highlight some more options for the plant-based/vegan folks in Jersey City and beyond? Here are some great vegan places (outside of our usual local favorites) to grab this comfort dish.
Vegbar Plant-based Kitchen
464 Newark St., Hoboken
A recent addition to Hoboken, Vegbar offers a couple of pasta specials on their menu including the Miss Mac, made with sweet potato cashew cheese sauce and an almond parmesan crust.
525 Washington Blvd, Jersey City
Along with offering their signature vegetarian mac and cheese, Automat Kitchen offers a Vegan Mac made with penne, toasted breadcrumbs, and scallions. You can also add grilled tofu or Beyond Meat to your mac.
1 Elm Row, New Brunswick
Veganized’s menu includes a wide variety of comfort food like the Mackin Cheese, made with elbow pasta, a sweet potato truffle cashew cream, breadcrumbs, smoked shiitake, and roasted broccoli.
321 North 8th St, Prospect Park
While they are closed on Wednesdays, you could always stop by during the other weekdays or order food from Freakin Vegan to ship! They offer their Buffalo Chick’n Mac n Cheese and their BBQ Pulled Porkless Mac n Cheese to be shipped to your door.
Good Karma Cafe
17 East Front S, Red Bank
Good Karma Cafe serves up a mac and cheese entree topped with coconut bacon and sriracha aioli, and you can add a patty, seitan, tofu, or tempeh to your meal. And be sure to ask for the daily special –they might have a mac and cheese special for the day!

106 N Union Ave, Cranford
If you’re stopping by for some baked goods (as you should when you pass by Papa Ganache), be sure to grab a pint of their Mac n Cheese. They offer gluten-free and non-gluten free options for their mac. If you’re lucky, you might even catch their Fried Mac n Cheese Balls special.
Vegans of Seitan

When you grab dinner at Vegans of Seitan, especially their Fried Chicken and Jerk Chicken platters, enjoy a side of their famous Mac and Cheese. Make sure to check out their daily specials, many of which come with mac and cheese on the side!

If you’re in Harlem for the day, be sure to stop by Seasoned Vegan for dinner and try their famous Baked Mac n Cheese! It’s a side portion, making it the perfect accompaniment for entrees like their BBQ Riblets, Harlem Chopped Cheeseburger, or their Po Boy Sandwich.
Urban Vegan Kitchen
41 Carmine St, West Village
Urban Vegan Kitchen serves up some of the best vegan comfort food you can find, including their Mac and Cheese made with a cashew cheese sauce and served with a bread crumb topping. You can add broccoli, shiitake bacon, tempeh bacon, fried seitan, or buffalo seitan to your mac.
276 Knickerbocker Ave, Brooklyn
Sol Sips offers a delicious plant-based mac and cheese for local delivery and store pickup. It’s gluten free, nut-free, and soy-free made with coconut-based cheddar and mozzarella, and you can choose to have it as a standard mac or have it baked.
132-9 Liberty Ave, Queens
If you find yourself in Jamaica, Queens, Veggie Castle is a great casual spot to get vegan comfort food. Be sure to stop by and grab one of their meals – you can pick up to 2 proteins and 3 sides, including their Mac and Cheese. The mac is also available in a variety of sizes, from a small portion to an extra large platter.

S’MAC (short for Sarita’s Macaroni and Cheese) is a dedicated Mac and Cheese restaurant that offers vegan and dairy-free options on their large menu. Their vegan mac is made with coconut milk, rice flour, potato flour, palm oil, organic palm shortening, marmite, salt, and pepper. You can get it plain or with additional mix-ins like broccoli, shiitake mushrooms, buffalo sauce, or even spinach with garlic.
111 E 7th St, East Village
If you’re looking to go out for a nice dinner, Ladybird is a beautiful space with vegan bites and a wine bar. They serve a truffle mac and cheese on their tapas menu, made with truffle oil, breadcrumbs, and seared mushroom. Mushroom bacon is also available as an add-on.
197 Meserole St, Brooklyn
Looking for that classic diner experience with vegan versions of diner classics? Champs Diner offers a wide variety of comfort food options, including a creamy Mac and Cheese bowl appetizer with broccoli, bacon, and truffle hot sauce available as add-ons.
35-43 37th St, Queens
No5 is a vegan restaurant (that also serves some non-vegan options) in Long Island City. Start off your dinner with their Mac & Cheese starter, served with Portabella mushrooms and white truffle oil. You can also add vegan chorizo and caramelized onions to your mac.
