With pleasant weather and a jam packed weekend full of events, Jersey City was once again the place to be on Saturday. With live music, food trucks, local vendors, booze, and even a visit from Princess Anna, the Village Block Party was sure to have something for everyone. Cool vibes, diverse music, and great people made the festival the ideal way to spend a gorgeous day.
I started off at the Basket Kreations table, where I had the privilege of speaking with Cindy Garrison for nearly an hour! By the end of our talk, I decided to buy the ‘Pomegranate Swirl’ scented soap and I’m glad I did. Cindy has been making homemade soaps for the past 5 months and she is determined on changing the way consumers look at beauty products. You should pay her a visit because she makes affordable, quality products, and she knows her stuff!
After leaving Basket Kreations, I stopped by Be The Difference, where I spoke to Joy. Joy and her team make inspirational t-shirts, with motivational messages such as “My Future is Bright.” I even got to check out Bella’s Art Style, where all of candles are homemade locally.
I ended my quick visit to the festival at Cork & Canvas, whose team of artists aim to teach people how to paint while having fun and enjoying a glass of wine. It’s Jersey City’s new way to paint the town and I can’t wait to try it for myself!
On my way out of the festival, there was a belly dancing performance near the stage, which invigorated the entire party. This was also a sharp contrast to the more relaxed acoustic performances that I enjoyed earlier, but this musical diversity was truly symbolic of the city’s overall diversity.
Couldn’t make it? Below are some more photos from the festival, along with contact info for some of the business owners I spoke to.
