A few days ago as I looked at the ChicpeaJC event calendar, I almost had an aneurism. Over 35 events listed!! I even said, on social media “Not covering events this weekend” but alas I couldn’t help myself. So many fun things happening and the nice weather just started. Has anyone invited a cloning machine yet?!? The struggle is too real.
OK. Rant over.
Newport 10k
A week ago, I decided on a whim, to register for the Newport 10K race and joined the Art House Productions team to help raise funds for this amazing organization. I consider myself pretty fit, but I only run once a week and when I do it’s more like a frolic with breaks on the way so I can dance to whatever song I am listening too…. That being said I was excited to participate in my first race!!
We got there early to register and get our bibs and of course take pictures!!
At 8:30 on the dot the sound of the horn went off and all the runners started their race. It was such a fun experience and I really pushed myself and ran as fast as I could.
I clocked in at 53.30! I felt so good about my time and finishing my first race in under an hour. Yay Art House!! If you wish to still sponsor us for the run, click Here
Hamilton Park Garden Party
After the race we headed home, showered changed and off we went to the Hamilton Park Garden Party. It was the perfect day.
DJ Pastiche was spinning….
Wine expert Loulou was serving some yummy merguez sandwiches.
Jersey City Art School set up easels and canvases, giving adults and kids the opportunity to paint outside while the lovely and dressed up Ceallaigh Pender posed on a stage.
The Frozen princess and Wolverine were there for the kids entertainment and mini-chicpea was absolutely mesmerized when she saw the her…. she didn’t like wolverine as much.
Guitarist Matty Dee was killing it, playing our favorite tunes… This guy is so talented! Adding him to my list!!
Photographer Mickey Mathis was there and offered to take my picture! How lovely.
What a fantastic afternoon!
In Tension Opening at Jersey City Art School
After a quick rest and change of clothing (god forbid I wear the same outfit all day) we headed to the inaugural opening of the JCAS gallery at their new location; 29 McWilliams.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post I didn’t plan on really covering any events this weekend, but after running into Thomas Carlson, boss man of JCAS I had to come support his first event at the new space. So glad I did.
What a beautiful evening spent with familiar faces and beautiful art work by some of Jersey City’s most talented…
Joe Velez
Bed Bugs In Love– Sam Pullin
Blair Urban
Norm Kirby
Rocker chick Susan Lutin was there spinning some dope beats! She was playing all my favorite 90s hip hop jams! Love her.

50 Shades of Borscht at Temple Beth El
After interviewing comedian and host of “50 Shades of Borsht” Phil Rivo, I had to go to this night of comedy benefitting Temple Beth El.
My girl Rachael Robbins aka JC’s Playboy Bunny started the show, and she killed it! She did an amazing job and she is a natural comedian and so are her boobies. #sorrynotsorry
Jason Youner, a local Jersey City comedian, was the second act and he killed me… I think I lost a lung from laughing so hard! He reminded me so much of George Costanza from Seinfeld!! It was so funny as I write this post I am still laughing out loud thinking about it.
The main act of the evening was New York City comedian Lenny Robbins. As soon as he walked on stage and opened his mouth I was crying. “I look like I can fix your printer….Some lady came up to me at best buy and asked me if I worked there…I said no… ended up selling her a laptop”. LOL. You had to be there.
Honestly never thought a comedy show at a Temple would be so hysterical and out of control. Great job guys!! I can’t wait for the next one.
Crazy and The Brains at The Funhouse
After the comedy show, I was on my way home and then decided to make a stop and check out the band Crazy and The Brains perform at a new DIY venue “The Funhouse”…. I already did a recap post so read about it here!!
Riverview Market and Yoga in The Heights
I was up at 6am this morning, doing some work before the family woke up and realized I probably should take some time for myself and get outside. I grabbed my bike aka Bridgitte and rode up to the Heights. I got a cold brew at Modcup and then crossed the street to check out the Riverview Farmers Market which started today! It is such a great market, with the most amazing views!! After taking a nice stroll I decided to try a Yoga in the Heights weekly donation-based class being taught in the park itself! So fun. More about the Riverview Market happening every Sunday coming soon on ChicpeaJC!
Don’t forget to post your event on the ChicpeaJC calendar! Who knows, I might just show up with my camera!! Fun!
