Hamlet illuminates the title character’s internal conflict as he navigates life after his father’s murder by his uncle, who has usurped the throne. The production will play a limited engagement from Thursday, March 28th through Saturday, April 14th at the Grace Church Van Vorst (39 Erie St).
Replete with ill-fated romance, breathtaking soliloquies, and battles, it is no surprise that Hamlet remains at the forefront of the theatrical canon over 400 years after its composition. Consumed by visions of his deceased father, Hamlet is driven to madness in his quest for vengeance in this powerful, frequently interpreted, and oft-quoted drama.
Artistic director and Shakespeare@ founder and artistic director Sean Haggerty applies his masterful knowledge of Shakespeare to this production which he directs. Sydney Steele is the associate producer. Hamlet features original music composed by Joan Melton, lighting design by Sarah Johnston, costumes by Anne-Marie Wright and sound design by Donghyuk Chang. Brad Lemons serves as fight director, with Joan Melton as voice & speech coach and and casting by Robin Carus.
Shakespeare@ plans to mount accessible interpretations of classic works, focusing on diverse dramas with sprawling casts in new intimate locations for future productions.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at shakespeare-at.org. You can also find Shakespeare@ on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
