So much for taking it easy this weekend! How could I not write about all the fun that I got to experience in Jersey City! That being said, Friday night I was planning on attending the Art House Productions Summer Blowout, but the couch won the battle. So I sent my newest and only ChicpeaJC “employee”, Crystal Davis to cover the festivities. I hired Crystal to join the team around a month ago and she has been so incredibly helpful, she was actually recommended to me by Christine Goodman from Art House as she used to intern for her. I am so grateful to have her on my team, thanks to her I no longer wake up at 4am to transcribe interviews!! She is also an excellent writer, did you guys notice the decrease of spelling mistakes and such?! Yay for Crystal! See her Summer Blowout recap below!
Meet Crystal Davis:
I’m a writer, painter, and editor. As a recent journalism graduate from NJCU, I fell in love with writing. There’s just something that is so tantalizing about being able to make people feel a certain way when it comes to reading. Nothing but raw emotion makes for something meaningful and memorable.
I was born in raised in Jersey City—until more recent years, where I chose never to go beyond school and back—and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else (Europe excluded). But what better way to learn of home than to appear as a guest on CHICpeaJC? A blog that has been watching Jersey City unravel itself in a most regenerative way. I have had work featured online and in print for NJCU’s The Gothic Times, PATHs and I infamously write poetry and short stories from time to time.
Art House Summer Blowout!
This past Friday, Art House Productions celebrated the end of their 14th season with a summer bash to remember! All who were in attendance got to party it up like there was no tomorrow. This year’s Summer Blowout featured musical guests such as Drum and a Tantrum, Overlake, and The Defending Champions!
No party is a party unless you’ve got black lights and disco on the dancefloor. The celebration was jam-packed with food, drink, and a golden giveaway. Summer was bounced through the theater in an array of colors, pool tubes, and beach chairs. Let’s give it up to Art House Productions for closing out their 14th season and cheer for another fourteen more!
Green Villain Demolition Exhibition
Probably the coolest thing to do this weekend was check out the Green Villain demolition exhibition #gvm004 at Pep Boys. Graffiti, music, gear, beer, food… really, what else can you ask for?!
I took mini-chicpea with me and she had a blast running around, checking out the art work and playing with a dope toy Escalade car. The exhibit will be open everyday till July 5th, so if you didn’t get a chance to see it, you must go before they demolish the Pep Boys in favor of new shiny buildings. I think the developers should totally consider making the parking garage a legal graffiti spot! How cool would that be?!
Short Grain Ribbon Cutting
Short Grain, an adorable coffee shop on Montgomery street opened it’s doors about a month ago and is now one of my favorite hangout spots! They have really delicious and fresh healthy eats, vietnamese cold brews and fresh juices… This Saturday they had a ribbon cutting with Mayor Steven Fulop! I decided to go because, well I wanted coffee so might as well kill two birds with one stone. Mazal Tov Short Grain!
6th Borough Market Instagram Takeover
Right after the Short Grain Ribbon cutting, I went next door to the 6th Borough Market and took over their instagram! It was the first time I ever did something like that and I really had fun with it!! I tried on clothes at Ephrath Boutique, balanced my chakras at Radical Wellness, and stuffed my face with all sorts of goodies!! #willworkforfood
Philippine Festival
I took a break from the market and hurried to Lincoln Park to check out the Philippine Festival… unfortunetly I missed the parade!! and I blame the Mardis Gras Truck at the market for basically holding me hostage with that delicious po boy sandwich!! haha. Anyway, the festival was so fun, tons of people and vendors, and many people dressed up in traditional Philippine fashions.
Another fun filled weekend in Jersey City!
