Before I moved to Bayonne, I used to live in Downtown Jersey City. The sight of City Hall felt nostalgic, with memories of riding bikes around the giant monument with my siblings. I never thought I would find myself back in the same area surrounded by various food tents and a great turnout from the community years later. This city has improved remarkably since I left. Project: EATS entailed unique food vendors, delicious desserts, and upbeat music. I was unsure where to start with the intriguing different scents filling the Summer air. My friends and I even had to walk around the scenery to figure out where to begin – twice! Finally, we found our way to the first choice, IncrediBalls – delicious mini meatball sandwiches with assorted flavors. The Italian was my favorite while my boyfriend, John, devoured the Swedish meatball. This incrediball included beef and pork meatballs, brown gravy, and a sour cream dill spread.
For dessert, we hit the popular churros stand, Dulcinea Churros. They are only located in New York, but their website says to stay tuned for more locations! Let’s hope they hit Jersey City soon! My friends selected the ice cream churro – a sweet combination with the best of both worlds. Peanut butter and roasted banana, salted caramel, and blueberry and crème fraiche were the alluring flavors they chose from the menu. A six out of ten rating was the majority vote from my friends.
This event was an outstanding gathering and I was really impressed with the community. It is amazing seeing how much Jersey City has grown and continues to improve from when I lived there years ago. This city will always have my heart, and I cannot wait to see more events the city holds next!
