Last weekend was a little intense…even for me. After covering what seemed to be around 1,000 different events for the Epic Jersey City weekend roundup, I needed an epic nap. This weekend, I decided to take it “easy” and chose 5 events that I wanted to hit up for myself, for the family and for fun.
TECCS 5K
Robyn Schneider, Lady Boss of Morlees (post coming soon) invited me to join her team to run the TECCS 5K along with some cool Jersey City people. It was the first time I’ve ever been sponsored for a run/walk so I couldn’t say no! I decided to take Mia for this one.
The race started at 10am in Liberty Stake Park. I attempted to run the whole thing while pushing the stroller which was pretty challenging to be honest!! At the last mile Mia wanted to run by my side so I let her… and she was running like a pro! People were cheering her on…
Then the poor thing tripped and scraped her knee, so I had to carry her the last mile of the race (she’s ok). We were going to stay for all the festivities and live music, but my mini-chicpea wasn’t feeling up for it.
Nonetheless we had fun and we were both happy to run for a great cause.
Hamilton Park Festival
A quick shower and outfit change and off we went to the Hamilton Park Festival, which was a thrifters dream!! So many vendors selling everything from furniture, art, clothing and eats!
We were so hungry from the run so the first thing we did was look for food. I was craving some Mordi’s Food truck and got the Chicken Shnitzel Meditarranean sandwich. It really hit the spot… I felt like I was back in Tel Aviv at the market.. It was nice :)
Egyptian Festival
I’ve been looking forward to the 10th Annual Egyptian Festival pretty much since I interviewed Ahmed Shedeed a few weeks ago. After dropping Mia home to nap, I went to check out the festivities….
There were many different vendors selling all sorts of Egyptian goods, but the best part was the music!
When I got there was a singer singing traditional Egyptian music and then after a DJ was spinning Egyptian House Music and even Hip Hop! I was totally rocking out.
They had a mini-ceremony and they presented awards to people in the community that support the Egyptian Festival.
Oh. There is Mayor and Councilman Rolando!
I dig the shorts.
6th Borough Market
I’ve done not one but two blog posts on this market, cause it’s dope! It happens every two weeks in the summer and it’s right behind City Hall. It’s a great thing to do on a Sunday and keeps the whole family entertained!
I went to check it out today with my mini-chicpea and was amazed at how much the market has changed… I mean it was always fun, but the organizers really kicked things up a notch. There were many new different vendors and food options. I was really impressed!!
I bought myself a ring from local Jeweler/Designer Resuma De Castro which I absolutely love and I am so excited to wear!
and of course I had to get my munchkin a little gift, I got her Woody and Jessie from Toy Story!! So cute. What a fun find!
Oh and there is the Mayor again. He is everywhere!! Ok so maybe I have an inside into his whereabouts, but honestly if I don’t write about all the cool stuff he is doing then who will?! am I right??!
Another fun Jersey City Weekend. I am spent…
