The JC Fitness Fair was a hit! With three full hours of non-stop workouts and meditation, everyone had a ton to do. Family and friends gathered in the City Hall Plaza for some interesting ten-minute exercises taught by many of the fair’s vendors including our very own Lynn Hazan!
Bright and early is how the fair started, our sponsors setting up their stations one by one, many walking around and browsing at each other’s tables. Everyone was prepped for the hundreds of visitors that popped by and made sure to fill them in on some great health tips. By the afternoon, the sun warmed the plaza and we began with our first exercise with deep meditation led by Leah Guy of Modern Sage. ChipeaJC LGBT writer, Charles and I joined in on the steps of City Hall as we imagining climbing a mountain and into a scenery that wasn’t quite Jersey City.
Lynn and DJ Stadium Status got the party started with a number of exercise routines throughout the day—keeping the crowd fit and energized. Many vendors joined in on the action like those from JC CrossFit and JC Barre. The guys at Killdit totally owned this photo just like they proclaim about Killdit apparel! Killdit showed up to show their support, but also to show the versatile of their clothing which is meant to motivate and empower you! Thanks for the photo guys!
Despite it being a brisk Sunday, the JC Fitness Fair’16 was a total success with bubbles, stretching, and participating in a vigorous hip hop exercise routine. Towards the end of the fair, we got really zen and mediated from the heart with Heartfulness Meditation, it was beyond relaxing and really helped tone down the energy from the day. What made the event even more spectacular was how easily the City Hall Plaza was converted into a large workout space where even the amazing Honey Bees joined us for some double dutch! We can’t wait for next year’s event because we know it’ll be even bigger!
Thanks Crystal for the awesome recap!
I am sore and exhausted from yesterday’s JC Fitness fair but so happy with the way the day turned out. I got there at around 8:30 AM to help with the set up.
At around 9 AM all the vendors started showing up to set up, everyone seemed in good spirits and excited to showcase their business and get the day started. At 11 AM we started with the fitness demo’s and Leah Guy, owner of Modern Sage led a really relaxing meditation. Even though I was “MC’ing” I could feel my anxiety leave my body… ok well only for a few minutes.
Next up was IronPlate Studios to do their demo. they are partially responsible for my abs so I joined Coach Chris Young on stage to help demonstrate. Man that was exhausting… I didn’t really expect to actually workout!
It was great to see so many people participate in the fitness demo’s even though it was a little chilly out!
Next up was JCF Bootcamp led by coach Daris who came with a whole squad and the energy was awesome! They kicked major butt.
Everyone was having a blast! there were people walking through the fair, meeting the different businesses. It was a really great thing to be part of.
Shout out to Squeeze’d Juices for keeping us energizes with those amazing smoothies. YUM
So everything was going really well and then something kinda sucky happened. Our generator went out and we were out of power for a good 30 minutes and as a result had no music for the fitness demo… so we sort of ran with it and I brought everyone in front of the stage for a quick stretch and then Bachata and Barbells came on stage to give us a fun a cappella workout that really kicked my butt.
The Honey Bee’s also came by and taught us how to double dutch! I love them and can’t wait to hear their story. It’s all about having fun, working out and teaching the kiddos that being healthy can be fun! Double dutch is really hard you guys, I think I burned like 2,000 calories… Off to Milk Sugar Love I go!!
We fixed the music issue and we were ready for some Zumba with Maximum Motion’s fitness instructor Khateeta! Everyone was ready to party!
It was my turn to teach my hip hop moves. So fun! I never thought I would be twerking right next to city hall! LMAO.
Shout out to Brian Platt for the Office of Innovation for come to the fair and flexing his muscles for us on stage.
The real MVP was DJ Stadium Status, it’s not a fitness party without a good DJ and he rocked it. Love the guy.
More pics k?
I must say planning this event with JC Families was so fun! they are so professional and on top of everything. They really know what they are doing, I look forward to planning this event with them for years to come. What I am really upset about is I didn’t get a photo with my JC Families Squad!! We were too busy making sure things were going smoothly!
Thanks, JC Families!
