On September 21st, I had the lovely opportunity to stop by Hudson Montessori School for their International Peace Day Celebration.

In honor of International Peace Day, Hudson Montessori School students worked on a celebration to honor Sadako Sasaki, an atomic bomb survivor. She believed in the legend that making 1,000 cranes would bring good luck and recovery to her life, and her cranes became a symbol for healing and peace.

The students of Hudson Montessori School created leaves and cranes for a Peace Tree to symbolize their respect for Sadako Sasaki and their hope for peace. The students filled the room one-by-one with each student holding a crane. They sat in front of a Peace mat and a table with four candles, each one from a participating class.

As the students sat down, they sang along to Light a Candle for Peace and one student from each class was chosen to light a candle. Once they lit the candles, they all rose and planted their cranes onto the Peace mat in front of them while making a wish.

It was incredible to see students gather together, celebrate peace, and celebrate Sadako Sasaki! I can’t wait to see what next year brings on International Peace Day!
