On Thursday evening seven high school students were present in the City Hall Council Caucus room presenting their business plans to a set of Jersey City business owners and city council members who judged their plans.
HOPE “Business in A Box” is a Project of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation and Mayor Steven M. Fulop. Incoming high school students and those who attend Jersey City’s public schools are encouraged to apply.
Thursday’s group of seven truly represented the thoughts and minds of individuals who plan on making a change in our community.
The students were from McNair, Ferris, Abraham Lincoln, and William L. Dickinson high schools. Those who participated were Ibraham and Natasha who presented One-on-One Tutoring—the grand prize winners—which would be a $13 an hour business where students tutored students in need of academic help. Eleeze and Keyanna who presented The Cupcake Studio—the 2nd prize winners—who sought to be a Jersey City based bakery that would feature ice cream cupcakes. Baddar presented the idea of Kids and Teens Palace—3rd prize winner—where kids and teens could play new video games and trade in old ones or disliked games for half the price! And finally there was Tanasia who presented Gentle Care—honorable mention and winner of $200 for perfect attendance—in which she would help with caregivers and senior citizens in Jersey City.
The students had so much to give and I can’t wait to see where their futures lead!
