Groove on Grove is the place to be on a Wednesday evening; live music, good times, good people and it’s all free! This Wednesday there is going to be a special Groove on Grove lineup, it is the fifth annual “Ladies on the Mic”! Which means only women rockers will be stepping up to the mic! I reached out to Beth Achenbach aka Bubbala, the brains behind “Ladies on the Mic” to get the background story on this fun event.
Beth, when did Ladies on the Mic start? Ladies on the mic started in 2010, I had an art show at Made With Love Cafe at the time, I thought we could do a poetry night to bring people in. It got a good response… then we started doing it at other places as a response to that… In addition to inviting ladies of all ages and talents. We started doing Groove on Grove in 2011 so this will be the fifth year I’ve done a Ladies on the mic for the HDSID.
Is it just music? Yes! Just music this time. We have 3 great female led bands who I will be introducing! I have some little inflatable smiley faces I will be bringing with me for the kids. It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be a really good outdoor music concert! Plus don’t forget the refreshments available at the market which is a bonus!
What’s the lineup this year? Autumn City is an all female alternative indie rock band from New Jersey.
Plastic Passion also an all female new wave, rock band from the NY area.
Sounds awesome! Mini-chicpea and I are ready to mosh!
FYI- It is a beer/ liquor night, beer from Park and Sixth, Left Bank Burger, Raval, Orale and Hard Grove Cafe!
In conjunction with “Ladies on the Mic” there will be the Artist & Maker market! I reached out to Vera Vixeness who organizes this market every month to get more info on this Wednesday!
What can we expect this week? There will be Live Henna Art Demo taking place during the day’s event by Swati Rastogi . In terms of vendors we will have vintage, urban wear, unique & original high quality jewelry, pop art, organic soaps, organic ice cream, leathers crafted goods, cheeky clothing & accessories! cool drinks & refreshments, hand crafted hot sauce, home décor, henna art, hand dipped decadent chocolate covered fruits & cheesecake bites, crystals, clever cards!, Bonsai Plants/ Tree, beeswax candles, handmade ornaments and decorations….
Wow! Sounds like I need to bring a little extra cash! You have to shop local! To find more information https://www.facebook.com/pages/Artist-Maker-Market-Groove-on-GroveThis event would not be possible without the HDSID and their Sponsors!!
