“Going up on a Tuesday”…. Since that song came out, I’ve been dying to say it and actually mean it. A few weeks ago while visiting Faded Royalty; “Stylish peep”, DJ Alaska invited me to their first live show event in Manhattan, “Screw York” at Arlene’s Grocery in the LES. Normally I don’t cover events outside of Jersey City, but seeing as though a local brand is spreading the Jersey City talent and cool vibes in Manhattan, I had to go and support. Then he said, it’s on a Tuesday… Now, let me paint a picture for you. Tuesdays I put my kid to bed, then slip into my pj’s; an oversized t-shirt that says “This is my horny look”, I watch TV, work on my blog and stalk people on Instagram. Last time I went out on a Tuesday was in 1998. #halfkidding
That being said, I had to go out and show the Faded Royalty peeps my support. Roc and DJ Alaska are mad cool, they are down to earth guys that work hard and are super passionate about their brand. I knew this live show would be a killer and not to be missed!
I called my girl Kyra up and told her “Turn up Tuesday”.
Interestingly enough, I find out that JCI (Jersey City Independent) was having a meet and greet that same night at LITM, and across the street at Two Boots, Chris Zurich was performing. It was perfect timing!!
First Stop LITM: JCI Meet and Greet
Cat is the #girlboss of Harmony Media which runs JCI; a local magazine that covers everything going on in Jersey City. Since I interviewed Cat and wifey Beth (who is also a contributor) I’ve been following these two around! They are just really good peoples doing really cool things! Anyway, the event was so packed! so many people came out to support the mag and mingle with each other. “Do you guys not work tomorrow? What is going on here?” I thought.
I also got to do a mini photo shoot with my friend/birth educator (not kidding) and unofficial ChicpeaJC editor; “Skate Mom” she is as crazy as I am. #shortandjewy.
Second Stop: Chris Zurich @Two Boots
After that it was time to go across the street to pizza spot Two Boots to check out Chris Zurich perform. Which was organized by Art House Productions. Chris is so crazy talented! He did a few original songs and covers… I got teary eyed at a point. If Chris wore a “Suit & Tie” he would be the next Justin Timberlake!
After Two Boots, Kyra and I recruited stylish peep Dan Joseph (who seems to be inserting himself in many posts these days) and Babeliest babe Bianca to go to Arlene’s Groceries to see the Faded Royalty show.
Path Train Photoshoot time!
Third Stop: Faded Royalty at Arlenes Grocery
We got there early enough to hang out before the show started and I met a few new friends! Like the guys from Prep Era who supported me when I first started and hooked me up with some Swag for my hip hop videos. They are mad cool and looked fresh to death wearing Faded Royalty.
It was finally show time, and the crowd was live. Again thinking to myself “Do you not have to wake up tomorrow? what am I missing here?” .
Jersey City DJ Mega Mission was MC’ing and getting the crowd turnt up! I loved his energy, and his outfit was on point. This guy is the real deal!! #sowavy. He spotted me in the crowd and gave me a warm shout out yelling out “Chicpea in the house” IT MADE MY F-G WEEK!! Thank you Mega!! #imnotworthy
DJ 201 was getting the crowd hyped with some dope beats and of course he dropped “The club going up on a Tuesday…” Now I have this song stuck in my head. Should I do this song in my Hip Hop class?!
There were many Jersey City people who came out to represent and support Faded, it was really great to see. Young talented photog Andy-Mac (who almost blew up my website with his post) was there doing his thing with Hip Hop Duo from Jersey City, Petey Ugly who I happen to be interviewing tomorrow!
The first act was Jersey City local rapper Most Brigante. He went on the mic and said that it was his first time crossing the river and performing in Manhattan. Honestly, if he didn’t say that, I wouldn’t have known, the dude killed it! I loved his style, great energy, the beats were dope AF.
I WANT TO INTERVIEW HIM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE #hinthint. What I also loved about his performance was his whole crew of people who came to support him, and they knew all his songs by heart. I love seeing that. So much Jersey City love I could cry.
Check him out in this short clip I took of him doing his damn thing.
The second act was “Bitches is Crazy” yes that is their name, and yes they are crazy. They came out with a bottle of Hennessey and gave people cups to drink out of… Then there was a big bird doing his thing on stage. The moment the music started it was CRAZY!! Like these guys have mad energy, do you think they drink ModCup?! Anyway, at a point a moshpit started right where I was standing and I made a beeline to the back the moment someone stepped on my white Reebok high tops…
At that point I looked at the clock and it was getting late.. when you are a parent you start counting down the hours to when your kid wakes up. I really wanted to stay to check out the other performances; Dave East and Emilio Rojas but made an executive decision and bounced. I was happy to at least catch local artist Most doing his thing.
A funny social media moment, Faded Royalty posted a pic on their instagram and someone spotted me in the crowd… and of course I am on my phone!! :/
Good times. A special thanks to my cool friends who joined, Kyra, Bianca and Dan, I had a blast, even though you guys were mad annoying on the way home.
“Squad goin’ up, on a Tuesday….”
