The countdown begins to THE biggest street fair of the year. Over 125 local vendors will be gracing our streets on September 20th. If you are a true ChicpeaJC reader you know by now that one of my favorite things to do is going to markets/street fairs/festivals. Where else can you shop for cute things, snack, drink and also entertain the rest of your family?
That being said, I am going to be missing this years street fair…Cue the violins. My dear cousin is getting married! how dare he get married during the biggest Jersey City street fair of the year?! Anyway, since I will be missing this awesome event I decided to do a fun recap of some of the vendors that I blogged about that will be attending this fair as well as visit some new ones!!
Eats
Grandma Downtown
Three words #nomnomnom. I just looove her stuff, so much so that when I go to the farmers I actually make an effort to avoid going to see her because I know I will end up stuffing myself with her breads. Ever since my post about her I dream about her nutella rolls… Also, it helps that Krista is a total babe!! #girlcrush. She does not look like a grandma though.
Helen’s Pizza
When I heard Helen’s pizza was going to be representing at the street fair I decided to go check them out since I’ve actually never tried their pizza. I ordered a cheese and spinach pizza slice for lunch and sat at one of their booths. I was immediately transported to those party days of drinking and eating a late night slice… just now it was the middle of the day and no booze in sight….Which translates to: That shit was off the hook!
Milk Sugar Love
Ice Cream is my obsession… and when it comes to quality and taste Milk Sugar Love delivers. I went to visit Emma at the beginning of summer and basically tried all her flavors… What I love about MLS is that they use quality ingredients: organic milk, creme and sugar and they also try to use local products whenever they can! I went there recently with Mia and I got us a cup to share and well she didn’t even give me a bite :( .
Left Bank Burger
I’ve been to LBB before and ate their veggie burger which is made by JC Veggie Burgers (they will also be at the fair). It was delicious, but I needed to go back and actually try a burger. Here is the thing, I am a vegetarian. Up until a week ago… I interviewed a local food company (post coming soon) and had to eat their delicious food… Then I went to interview the wonderful firemen at Engine #9 and they made a delicious chicken parm sandwich for lunch so I ate that. Uh oh. Anyway, I figured at this point why not? I met Danny the owner and we sat down to chat… I ended up eating 3 different burgers. Can someone pass the tums?
What are you guys going to be serving at the fair? We’re doing three of our burgers- The Tar Heel: comes with barbecued pulled pork. We’re doing the Fresh Prince which is our take on the Philly cheese steak, and we’re doing our signature burger, The Bankrupt.
Oh, that’s awesome. And what is your favorite burger?I would say the Bankrupt.
What’s in it? American cheese, beef patty, bank sauce, which is our secret sauce, and red onion.
What are you looking forward to do at the street fair? Pretty much just network with the other vendors, get out there and meet some of the locals. I’m excited about it but not from a vendor standpoint, but more of a consumer. I’m from Jersey City, born and raised…So last year, we were building this place up during the fair. I went out there and spent about $150 just on food, trying BBW from south Jersey, food trucks from New York, it was just great. Great for everyone.
Do you know that people say this is the best burger in this area? I hear rumors. Business Insider said we have the best burger in New Jersey.
Which burger specifically? The Tarheel.
Did you know I’m a vegetarian?
Peace.Love.Pops
After a juicy burger (or 3) a nice healthy ice pop can help you digest (I totally made that up). Check out Josh’s awesome cold ones at the street fair!
Busybee Organics
I am a huge fan of Busybee organics; Michelle the “girl boss” who cooks and runs this business sells some amazing healthy treats. From gluten-free vegan muffins, to the most delicious beet humus. If Mia, my fussy toddler loves eating it with a spoon you know it’s good shit.
So this is your first street fair? Yes! I am excited and just a little nervous. I don’t know what to expect. Everyone has been really awesome though so that helps.
What will you be selling? We are going to be offering the beet hummus.
I looove the beet humus!! We will serve that as a platter with chips on the side…. We will also be serving different nut butters, apple butters and treats people can take home!
Kiddo Stuff
Bambino Chef
I am a huge fan of Bambino Chef, I just love the idea of teaching kids the art of cooking… and I am even more of a fan of the “girl boss” who runs it. Super fab mom Rene! A few months ago she was kind enough to do a guest post on my blog, a healthy recipe for picky eaters. I wonder what she’s got in store for the street fair!!
A Sound Start
Mia has been going to A Sound Start since she was just a few weeks old. Andy is amazing with the kids! Love her class.
Shopping
E.Tittlemouse & Co
I think I go into E.Tittlemouse & Co at least once a week, they always have amazing finds and they are just super fun to talk to. In fact 50% of the “Tittlemouse” family has been a “stylish peep”; Napoleon and kiddo Esme. Make sure you check them out at the street fair!
Vivi Girl
After stuffing myself at Left Bank, my girl Kyra and I went by Vivi Girl to try on some adorable clothes. I reached out to Marie, the owner of Vivi Girl to get the inside scoop on what the shop will be selling for the street fair.
Another Man’s Treasure
What’s that? I kid! I literally dedicated 2 weeks to this awesome vintage shop. They rock my world and my wallet! haha. Check out all my posts from last week to get an inside look at the fashions AMT will be bringing to the street fair.
Jersey City Tattoo’s
Hell yeah…. while you are shopping, drinking and eating, get a tattoo while you’re at it! JC Tattoo’s was actually one of my first blog posts. I got two tattoos done here about 8 months ago, maybe it’s time for the next one?
MBS MFG
MBS stands for made by Sean and he is my boy! I interviewed him and his wife Annie a few months ago (check it out!) and I had such a good time trying on all his hats and getting to know them! I am now a proud owner of two 5panel caps. They are super stylish! a must accessory for fall especially on those bad hair days.
Since I won’t be able to make it this year, please go for me! take plenty of pictures and tag me on Instagram so I can participate in all your fun! Maybe your pic/selfie will be up on a post the next day!
