A couple of weeks ago I was toying with the idea of throwing a hip hop dance party. It was the day I decided to leave my job of 7 years in the tech field to pursue CHICpeaJC full time and other projects. I felt like I needed a big bash to celebrate this new endeavor and also my 31rst birthday! I reached out to Jon, boss man of The Dopeness and it became official… To be honest, I felt weird at first throwing a party for myself…. but I had a feeling other people would enjoy an old school dance party as much as I would!
Thursday, July 24th 8:00pm
I got there a little before party time to help set up, get the zebra carpet and backdrop banner ready, and take a shot of vodka…. at exactly 8:00pm I see artist Robert Piersanti walking towards The Dopeness with a huge painting of…. me!! I went to see Robert just a few short days ago to interview him for a post, he took a few pictures of me and then 3 days later a painting was done. He is a true talent! Robert’s work is actually showing at The Dopeness, and there was one empty spot, by the dance floor…. made for the painting he made of me. Someone pinch me!!
Guests were of course fashionably late, I am not going to lie, at a point I started whining and said “No one is coming to my party” … and it was like a bus passed by and dropped off all the party people.
The Zebra Carpet
We thought it would be a fun idea to have a red carpet and a backdrop to take pics of people before coming in, hollywood styles…. If I am going to throw a party I am going to do it right. At the last minute we couldn’t get a red carpet, but Chris Capaci my friend and photographer found a zebra one at Target! It worked perfectly… and my girl Kate Zander totally hooked it up with the backdrop….Does this mean I made it? or not yet?
I am loving the pictures of everyone on the zebra carpet!
The Dancing
DJ George Luis brought the house down with his dope beats, he was spinning everyone’s old school and new school favs: from Biggie to Bell Biv Devoe, Michael Jackson… you name it. At a point there was no room on the dance floor because everyone was on it getting their groove on. I cannot tell you how much that made me happy! That was my goal of this party, for people to have fun, let loose and drop it like its hot!
The Outfits
Everyone was dressed to the nines, it was basically a “stylish peep” party! Here is my only thing, now looking back at my outfit choice… I am definitely having a “what was I thinking moment”. Sometimes you got to step out of your comfort zone and try new things ! sometimes it works and sometimes in doesn’t!
The day of the party I asked people to use #chicpeajc so that I could post some of their fun party pics!! Thanks guys!
Friendly Happy Faces
A shout out to everyone that made this party happen. The Dopeness, DJ George and his girl DJ Meghan, Kate and the CHICpeaJC Paparazzi…
Papparazi
At a point in the party there were about 4 people with fancy cameras taking pictures. Just so you all know they don’t follow me around…except for Chris (semi kidding). These are friends that either like to take pictures or are professional photographers! Below are 4 different galleries from each photog; feel free to grab the pics you are in/like and share them!
