Last time I covered JC Friday’s I was only about a month into blogging about Jersey City so I was pretty clueless about all the cool people and things going on. Now after 130 posts on all the awesome people that make this city so freaking cool… JC Friday’s is actually THE most stressful evening of the year for me. Trying to hit up 30+ events in one night is impossible. Next year my goal is to have a ChicpeaJC street team! Taking applications.
My girl Kyra joined me for this one; she put together a rough itinerary and kept me honest (basically telling me to shut the f-k up when I deserved it) and she also kept an eye out for me to make sure I wouldn’t have any nip slips in this super cute jumper I got from AMT. She’s awesome…. We started the evening at Torico’s to get some sugar and cool down before the festivities began, we of course did a mini photo shoot using rosy, my new camera.
First spot was E.Tittlemouse & Co ; home of stylish peep Napoleon and kiddo Esme for an evening of “Noir”.
The evening was for a preview of an upcoming comic called “Siren’s Calling: A Horror Noir” written by John Trigonis and Illustrated by Lauren Clemente. When I walked in I had to whisper “Lorelei” to a lovely dapper gentleman to enter to win an illustration by Lauren Clemente! and I won!! Woot!
People came to this event dressed to the nines! It was a very fashionable event.
Kyra and I tried on some dope accessories designed by Caviar Noir; We both died and went to accessory heaven. Her stuff is gorgeous and so luxurious. Can’t wait to get my hands on a headpiece! I look like Cleopatra….
After that we hit up TeaNJ to check out Joe Zappa Costa’s art exhibit. Joe was showcasing art he painted over 20 years ago and he is now getting back into the art scene. I have a feeling about this guy and will definitely interview him for a future post.
It’s been about one hour since my last post on Another Man’s Treasure, wrapping up a full week of vintage fashion and stories… I started getting a twitch and needed to hit up the AMT Showroom for their JC Friday’s block party! I can’t stay away from them! I also had to see what Meika and Warren were wearing….
It was a great shindig; they were showcasing pictures from their new fall Look Book, people were eating truffles made by Busy Bee Organics and of course trying on clothes! We even ran into Virile stylish peeps and barbers Adam and Andre.
Wow, just writing this is getting exhausting. Ok, so whats next? We popped into Iris Records for a bit for some live music and record shopping. It was my first time in the store and I am really intrigued to hear the background story on this place!
Now for the event I was anticipating all week… the Grand Opening of Balance Salon’s new location on Newark Ave. Carla the owner is probably one of my favorite people in Jersey City, she is so passionate about her salon, super friendly, outgoing…. I can go on. She is just rad! the people who work there are also some of the coolest cats you will ever meet. Once they get settled into their new spot I will be dedicating a full week on all things Balance.
The decor of this salon is incredible, I first got a peak at it when I interviewed stylish peep and artist Vincent Minervini who basically did all the work and design of the salon. It was so nice seeing the place in all its stages to where it is now… This is not a salon, it’s a spaceship…. its a community center were aliens of the world congregate.
The grand opening was THE party of the night, the place was packed with people! The artwork displayed on the walls of the salon are from Hoboken artist David Huggins, which is his accounts of him being abducted by aliens. At the party he went up to tell a story about his abduction. I came in a little late and missed the beginning but I got to the part where an alien was straddling him… talk about a ladies man!
I also apparently missed a drag performance by Zondra Foxx which I was really upset about but glad I was able to take photos of this fabulous person…
This party had an over abundance of stylish peeps, a few of which you guys know already know like Dave Feldman; frontman of WYLDLIFE, Kari my girl crush and of course Vincent! His outfit was incredible!!
After I left Balance salon, I FaceTimed my folks to check in on little Mia. Right on the screen I see my kid dancing at Groove on Grove with no shoes on. I hauled ass to go see my little munchkin rocking out. She looked like she was at the tail end of a Phish Concert! What a cutie.
Then it was back to the “scene” on my way I ran into some other Jersey City stylish peeps.
After that, Kyra had enough with me and said “I am sick of you and sick of this, here is your wallet and lipstick, I am going home” haha love this girl and her honesty!! It was time to walk over to Grassroots to check out my buddy and artist Rober Piersanti. On my way there I ran into artists Sean Lugo (read my post about him here!) and Ian Kuali’i which I’ve been looking forward to meeting for quite some time.
Jersey City artist Rat Pack; Sean Lugo, Ian Kuali’i and Kayt Hester.
Good times…. After all that I was so hungry, figured going to the Dopeness would kill two birds with one stone, I get to stuff my face with Tacos, listen to live music and check out some dope art (no pun intended). The art showcase here is a collaborative project with Robert Piersanti and other local artists like Sean Lugo and Norman Kirby.
We listened to Alex Pergament and J Hacha De Zola sing which made the ambiance very special…. and of course I ran into another stylish peep from 660 Studio “The Bun”!
Belly full, we decided to end the night at the Modcup after party where stylish peep DJ Pastiche was spinning some dope beats! People were dancing and having a great time and I was trying to get Chris Zurich to take my “look of the day” pic. #bloggerlife
After this spot I decided to call it a night….well maybe one more place. Porto-Lounge to check out John T Ruddy’s work and catch up with some bad ass jersey city “girl bosses” Summer and Luca.
Now before I wrap this post up. I needed to pay homage to the most stylish peep ever (post coming very soon) Mr John Fathom also known as “The Sheriff”. I saw him appear at pretty much all the events in town, he’s got so much swag its ridiculous.
Until Next Friday….
