The concept of going to party on a Sunday normally does not appeal to me…. Usually by 4pm I am plastered on my couch in my jammies! A few months ago I learned about the “Brunch Exchange” through a social media friend and future stylish peep, Sonny Castillo. He told me it was a party that happened once a month at local eatery/hot spot VB3. I was obviously intrigued by this concept of “turning up” at brunch… I like to dance so why not do it on a Sunday?
This weekend VB3 teamed up with the 90’s Hip Hop Junkie crew to throw a tribute party to the late and great Notorious B.I.G. When I saw the flyer for this party, I knew I had to go check it out. I switched out of my PJ’s and into a pair of hot pants and a Biggie T and headed off to VB3 (that rhymed).
I walked in and it was a little surreal to be walking into a club environment on a Sunday, but I kind of liked it! Now another reason why I was excited to check this party out was to finally meet celebrity chef Michael Colleti. This guy is so cool, I can’t wait to hear his story.
People where dressed to the nines (there is a dress code) having a blast, dancing, eating, drinking…. and the music was FIRE. They played all my favorite 90s hip hop beats and so much Biggie, I was on cloud nine! I had to find out more about this whole Brunch Exchange so I asked Ceasar, the event director at VB3 if I could interview him. He then took me to the back of the kitchen area (I felt like I was in a movie) and we talked about turning up on a Sunday….
What’s your name? Ceasar, but everyone calls me Cease.
What do you do? I am the event director for VB3, I organize the events here. I started the “Brunch Exchange”, being that it’s close to Exchange place here in Jersey City, and brunches are all about exchanging conversation and spending time with your friends so we called it “Brunch Exchange”.
How often does it happen? Every 3 to 4 weeks. The next one will be April 12th. We have all different types of talents coming in here. A lot of radio DJ’s come here…. the food is prepared by celebrity chef Michael Colleti… his food is delicious.
Can you tell me a little bit about tonights event? I mean today! haha. I forget that its the middle of the day on a Sunday! We are doing a tribute to the late and great Notorious B.I.G. I like your shirt actually…
Thank you! We are going to be playing a lot of 90s hip hop, mixed in with some newer stuff.
Now its the middle of the day on Sunday… do people dance? turn it up? This brunch has a reputation for being “the devil” because the next day I get a bunch of text messages from people that either couldn’t make it to work or told me they hit up strip clubs afterwards….
Oh really haha? Going up on a Sunday! The vibe is so good, and the music is great so everyone is having a great time. When its over at 8pm, they want to keep going… so I do a little after party at “The Squeeze” lounge, a strip club in Weehawken. Everyobody goes there after… Today we have DJ Ceelo from Hot 97, we have Big Dennis hosting, we have DJ Get Loose who is affiliated with The 90s Hip Hop Junkies who are good friends of mine…. we tied them in together with the theme because it just made sense. They do a lot of 90s hip hop parties which I don’t normally do…
It’s the Golden Era!! It is the best era!
Anything you want people to know about the brunch exchange? With the brunch exchange, you can search the hashtag #brunchexchange on Instagram if you want to see pictures and what its about….
Do people need reservations? If they want a table they need a reservation…. This brunch has been sold out for 3 weeks now… but anyone can come and drink at the bar. Once the brunch portion is over, around 5pm we clear out most of the tables to make room for the dance floor. We keep tables around for bottle service. Around 6:30, I got a surfboard that comes out with 64 shots on it…. I made it myself, painted it gold….
There’s going to be a lot of messed up people tomorrow! Yeah everyone is going to hate me tomorrow haha.
What about the dress code? Its a one time event. A very nice venue…. also with Chef Colleti, he’s been on the food network, its a chic, upscale venue so we want to have the same crowd here… people that one to come have a good time.
Good times!
