Break A Leg Showcase was back at it again at Cafe Sole, a local Soul Food restaurant home to events organized by various performing and visual artists. With another great lineup of local talents as well as hip hop legends Chill Rob G and Artifacts, this was not to be missed. Gotta love that Jersey hip hop! Out of all the Break A Leg showcases I attended, this was my favorite one by far. The energy was live, there were dope creatives in the building and everyone was there to have a good time. Hats off to the man with the master plan, Charles Kosan.
Guests were greeted by Ashlee…
Amongst the beautiful art works on display, there were many familiar Jersey City creatives.
FreshWarPaint set up shop too! They’ve been a part of the last three Break A Leg shows and it’s great to see other forms of art involved.
Deviator & Universal Zulu Nation was in the building. S/o to the dope brother, A.B. Tha God Dv8tor, Radio Host for Wu World Radio.
The evening was hosted by Kash Stackson. He definitely kept the energy going and the audience gave that energy right back.
With DJ Absurd on the 1 and 2’s playing that good hip hop…old school and new classics!
It was time to bring up the featured performers to the stage…
Jay Hollin
Labrea
Larry Wordz
Haze Brown
Jay Flows
Pi$$ Mob
Animal Crackas
Negros Americanos
Che’ Rap
and Clinton LG (not pictured).
After an amazing lineup of performances, the Soul Jerz bboy crew took the spotlight. These fellas killed it!
It was now time to bring up hip hop legends to the mic.
Jersey City’s own Chill Rob G performed “The Power” and literally everyone recited the classic’s lyrics word for word. And of course, it was such an amazing moment to witness! I had to get feedback from the crowd. “It was exciting and nostalgic to watch him perform notable classics. Chill Rob G impacted me as an emcee at a time where hip hop focused more on lyricism and positivity,” Vic Virtuous said.
Up next…Artifacts (Tame One & El Da Sensei)
The crowd went crazy as the duo performed their hits from the 90’s, the golden era of Hip Hop. The night was memorable to say the least.
