I fell in love with Milk Sugar Love a little over a year ago when I was first introduced to Emma, girl-boss of this adorable shop in the Hamilton Park area. After interviewing her and trying all the delicious ice cream flavors and treats, I knew this would be a long lasting relationship which it was and still is! MSL continues to be one of my favorite (and Mini-Chicpea’s) hangout spots. There is so much love in this shop, where are all the heart emoji’s?! <3 <3 <3
A few weeks ago, Milk Sugar Love celebrated one year of opening the shop and to celebrate they enlisted the Sweetin Sisters to throw the Largest Ice Cream Social in Jersey City!! As soon as I heard about it, I was counting the days and contemplating all the flavors I would want to taste (maybe all of them?!).
The event was held yesterday right outside the shop. We arrived at around 1pm and the Sweetin Sisters had already checked in around 100 people! So many people came out to support and eat ice cream! It was too fun.
The MSL team made around 250 S’mores Ice Cream sandwiches that were gone within a few hours! Thankfully I got to try one and it was AMAZING…. but obviously I had to eat more so I got the Honey Corn Cake Ice Cream and Mini-Chicpea got the Classic Chocolate but ended up eating mine.
The Sweetin Sisters (post coming soon) did such an amazing job! They set up a gold backdrop and had an iPad right by it to check people in. The sisters were out to set the record for the BIGGEST Jersey City Ice Cream Social! The final tally was at 730 people!! How awesome?!
Everyone came out to celebrate…

THE CUTENESS AT THIS PARTY WAS EVEN TOO MUCH FOR ME….
In the midst of the craziness, I grabbed Emma to ask her a few questions on this joyous occasion! I LOVE EMMA, and her team is so rad! Every one of them clearly loves working there and is passionate about Ice Cream and spreading the MSL love.
How does it feel to turn one? It feels amazing! It feels like it went by so quickly, I was working so hard that I didn’t even realize it.
Tell me about your year? It was a hard year, a lot of changes, a lot of growing. We changed the inside a lot, we have now, a walk-up window which is going to change even more this year. And I feel like we have the new ice cream machine we can make so much more ice cream, so many more sandwiches, [and] so many more pints.
What are your future plans? Well, I would love a second location. I’m still looking for that.
In Jersey City? Yes. If not, then a truck, so we can bring it to the masses!
Any new flavors? Well we have our new flavor of the month, Blackberry Basil, and then we have the new flavor in the mini ice cream sandwich we were giving away today which is Toasted Marshmallow. And then we’re bring back some favorites next week for the festival, we’re bringing back the Fruity Pebble Mack Daddy!
Ugh. I’m never going on a diet.
Anything else you want people to know about Milk Sugar Love? We use all organic grass-fed milk and cream and all the best New Jersey produce that’s the strongest part of our brand and that we have a lot of fun with that too.
You guys have like a nice team right? Yes!
It seems like you have a little family going on, a bunch of characters. Yes! We do, all of Jersey City.
I feel like there needs to be a reality TV show. Yes! We’ve been talking about that for a longest time. I think that would be great because all my workers are in high school so there’s all that great drama. You know there’s like breakups!
While the shop has been open one year, don’t forget that a local business like Milk Sugar Love can only work with the whole community’s support! So, if you missed this party, make everyday a sundae and celebrate all of life’s moments at MSL!!
