On Friday night I ventured to Merseles Studio to become fully engulfed in the world premiere of Lia Romeo’s American Dreamers. The play was based on three millennials and their transition into being adults in an adult world with adult things. Actors—Madalyn Pedone, Daniel Rutz, Tina Wong-Lu, Annabel Barret, and Alan Niebuhr really made the play somewhat spectacular. I found that each character could literally pull at my heartstrings, so much to the point that I nearly cried.
Understanding that being a college graduate may mean the end of teen and young adult life puts many in a situation that pretty much scares them.
Director Olga Levina closed the ending scene as the lights brightened and thanked the audience. “This is our first full production so it is important to produce new plays. It is our voice.”
What made the play spectacular was the range of ages that were present in the audience. The play had so much heart and soul that everyone could relate at one point or another. Watching it was well worth it, telling you about it wouldn’t do it justice—you’d have to see it yourself.
And as Becca (Madalyn Pedone) said, “What happens to all the regular people now?” They go out and find American Dreamers.
